Eastern Uttar Pradesh’s startup push gains ground as STPI opens Gorakhpur centre

Inaugurated by Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, the 25,000 sq. ft. facility built with an investment of around ₹20 crore will support startups, MSMEs, and IT firms, while STPI Director General Arvind Kumar said the centre can connect Purvanchal entrepreneurs to global markets.

Efforts to widen India’s technology footprint beyond major metropolitan centres received a fresh push with the inauguration of the Software Technology Parks of India centre in Gorakhpur, a move expected to support startups, strengthen the IT ecosystem, and improve export potential across Eastern Uttar Pradesh.
The new facility is the 71st centre of STPI, an organisation under the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology, Government of India. Developed with support from the Uttar Pradesh Government, the centre is intended to create a stronger base for innovation, entrepreneurship, and technology-led business growth in the Purvanchal region.

Inaugurating the centre, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath said the facility would expand opportunities for young people in Gorakhpur and Eastern Uttar Pradesh. He said entrepreneurs would be able to begin work without having to worry about space, electricity, or other essential support, adding that the plug and play model would make it easier for local youth to start their ventures.
Gorakhpur MP Ravi Kishan said people should keep pace with the country’s fast-moving technology landscape and contribute to national development. He urged young people and entrepreneurs to use the incubation centre to build new opportunities.

STPI Director General Arvind Kumar said the Gorakhpur facility would serve as a gateway for entrepreneurs from Purvanchal to reach global markets. He said Uttar Pradesh’s IT exports had nearly tripled over the past decade and added that the new centre would help drive further growth through incubation, mentorship, and wider market exposure.
STPI said it has continued to support startups through incubation, mentorship, investor access, and market linkages. It has also set up Centres of Entrepreneurship in areas such as artificial intelligence, IoT, blockchain, HealthTech, and FinTech, reflecting a wider focus on emerging technologies and innovation-led enterprise.

The Gorakhpur centre has been developed at Plot No. 4 and 5, Sector 7, GIDA, on nearly 3.5 acres with an investment of around ₹20 crore in collaboration with the Uttar Pradesh Government. Spread across 25,000 square feet, the Ground plus 1 facility has been designed with room for future expansion.
Its key features include plug and play workspace, 12,000 square feet of incubation space, an auditorium, conference and meeting rooms, an advanced Network Operations Center, a cafeteria, and other support amenities.
The centre is expected to provide a stronger platform for startups, MSMEs, and IT companies in the region while opening new avenues for employment, digital access, and entrepreneurial activity. The project adds to STPI’s wider role in expanding the technology ecosystem in Uttar Pradesh through infrastructure, policy support, and talent development.
