Indraprastha Apollo Hospitals Installs Varian Edge Radiosurgery System with Hyperarc Technology in Delhi

Dr G K Jadhav, Dr Sapna Manocha Verma and Dr Robin Khosa, Senior Consultants in Radiation Oncology at Indraprastha Apollo Hospitals, outline clinical applications including motion-managed radiation delivery and multi-metastasis treatment

New Delhi, February 24, 2026: Indraprastha Apollo Hospitals has installed the Varian Edge Radiosurgery System with Hyperarc Technology at its Delhi facility, adding a new platform for high-precision radiation therapy.
The system is designed to deliver stereotactic radiosurgery and radiotherapy with real-time motion management. It enables clinicians to track tumour movement during breathing and adjust radiation delivery accordingly, reducing exposure to surrounding healthy tissue.

The platform supports Deep Inspiration Breath Hold (DIBH), a technique commonly used in left-sided breast cancer cases to limit radiation exposure to the heart. It also provides high-resolution imaging and beam control for tumours in the lung, liver, abdomen, gastrointestinal and genitourinary regions, where internal organ motion can affect targeting accuracy.
One of the system’s operational features is its ability to treat multiple metastases in a single session. The synchronised movement of the radiation beam and treatment couch allows continuous delivery without repeated repositioning.

Dr G K Jadhav, Senior Consultant, Radiation Oncology, said the system broadens the range of cases that can be managed using focused radiation therapy, including lesions in anatomically sensitive locations.
Dr Sapna Manocha Verma, Senior Consultant, Radiation Oncology, noted that motion-tracking capabilities may allow tighter treatment margins in select cases, particularly where respiratory motion affects tumour positioning.
Dr Robin Khosa, Senior Consultant, Radiation Oncology, said the system provides submillimetre accuracy, which is relevant in brain metastases and other high-precision applications.

The installation was attended by additional members of the radiation oncology department, including Dr Mano Bhadauria, Dr Aditi Agarwal and Dr Devashish Tripathi.
Indraprastha Apollo Hospitals, commissioned in 1996 as a joint venture between the Government of Delhi and Apollo Hospitals Enterprise Limited, operates as a multi-specialty tertiary care centre with dedicated oncology infrastructure.
