Tesla has started test drives for the 2026 Model Y Premium Rear Wheel Drive across its India experience centres while introducing Grok, its multilingual AI assistant, through an over the air software update for Model Y owners.

Artificial intelligence is becoming an increasingly important part of the driving experience as vehicle manufacturers continue to expand connected features through software updates. In India, Tesla has begun offering test drives of the 2026 Model Y Premium Rear Wheel Drive while introducing new AI capabilities for eligible customers.
The 2026 Model Y Premium Rear Wheel Drive is now available for test drives at Tesla experience centres across India. The vehicle offers seating for up to five passengers, 2,138 litres of storage space, power folding seats, acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h in 5.9 seconds and a claimed driving range of up to 500 kilometres under the WLTP standard. It is priced at ₹50,89,000, with a down payment of ₹6,00,000 and monthly EMI starting from ₹39,990, subject to financing approval. Customers placing orders before 30th August 2026 will receive a complimentary Wall Connector.

Tesla has also started rolling out Grok, the conversational AI assistant developed by xAI, through an over the air software update for Model Y vehicles in India. Owners can activate the assistant by saying “Hey Grok” or by pressing and holding the steering wheel voice button. The feature supports multiple Indian languages, including Hindi, Marathi, Gujarati, Telugu, Tamil and Kannada.
According to Tesla, Grok enables voice based trip planning with multiple stops, location searches for charging stations and nearby facilities, explanations for vehicle alerts and personalised voice interactions. Automatic navigation has also been expanded to recommend destinations based on a driver’s travel patterns and routine through the latest Summer 2026 software release. These features are delivered through over the air updates without requiring a visit to a service centre.

Tesla said it has continued expanding its artificial intelligence infrastructure globally, including increased compute capacity supporting the development of vehicle autonomy software. The company also reported record deliveries across several international markets while increasing production of its 4680 battery cells to support demand for the Model Y.
Customers can experience the new Model Y Premium Rear Wheel Drive at Tesla locations in Hyderabad, Bengaluru, Mumbai, Delhi and Gurugram.
