The six lane flyover connects General Arun Kumar Vaidya Marg with Dadasaheb Phalke Chitranagari Road in Goregaon East. Arshad Lashkaria, CEO & Managing Director, Lashkaria Group, discusses its potential impact on commuting, employment access and residential choices across Mumbai’s suburbs.
Mumbai, October 23, 2026: Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis virtually inaugurated the 1.26 km Dindoshi Film City flyover on October 22, 2026, marking a milestone in Phase 1 of the Goregaon Mulund Link Road (GMLR) project.
The six lane flyover, located near Hotel Ratnagiri Junction in Goregaon East, connects General Arun Kumar Vaidya Marg with Dadasaheb Phalke Chitranagari Road near Santosh Nagar.
The newly opened road infrastructure is intended to improve local traffic movement and contribute to better connectivity between Mumbai’s western and eastern suburban corridors as the broader GMLR project progresses.
During the inauguration, Fadnavis spoke about the role of Mumbai’s recently completed infrastructure projects in improving travel across the city.
He said these developments would improve connectivity along both the northern and southern corridors and between the eastern and western suburbs.
The Chief Minister also referred to the broader objective of reducing travel times across Mumbai to approximately 50 to 60 minutes through improved road infrastructure.
He indicated that smoother traffic movement could make daily travel more convenient for residents.
The Dindoshi Film City flyover forms part of the first phase of the larger GMLR project, which is intended to create a more direct road connection between Goregaon and Mulund.
As the remaining components of the project progress, planned tunnels and connecting roads are expected to improve access between residential areas, commercial centres and employment destinations on both sides of the city.
Mumbai’s limited direct road connectivity between its western and eastern suburbs has long influenced commuting patterns and residential location decisions.
The wider GMLR project is intended to address this challenge by providing an additional cross city connection.
Beyond traffic movement, improved connectivity could influence Mumbai’s residential property market by expanding the range of locations that homebuyers can consider.
Arshad Lashkaria, CEO & Managing Director, Lashkaria Group, said, “Connectivity plays an important role in home buying decisions in Mumbai. As infrastructure projects such as the GMLR improve east–west travel, homebuyers will have greater flexibility to choose locations that combine accessibility with established social infrastructure and proximity to workplaces. Andheri, Jogeshwari and Goregaon already benefit from their proximity to commercial hubs, while improved links to the eastern corridor, including Mulund, Bhandup and Vikhroli, can make it easier for people to access employment opportunities across both sides of the city. This greater flexibility in commuting can further strengthen the appeal of well-connected residential neighbourhoods and support more informed housing choices,”
According to Lashkaria, improved transport connections could make established residential neighbourhoods more attractive to buyers who want access to workplaces across different parts of Mumbai.
Western suburban locations such as Andheri, Jogeshwari and Goregaon already provide access to several commercial destinations.
Improved connections towards Mulund, Bhandup and Vikhroli could allow residents of these areas to consider a wider range of employment opportunities without making residential decisions solely around their current workplace.
Mumbai’s eastern suburbs also have established residential communities, industrial areas, business districts and developing office locations.
Better connections between the two suburban corridors could support movement between these employment centres and residential neighbourhoods.
For businesses, wider access to suburban labour markets could potentially expand the geographical area from which employees commute.
For homebuyers, improved connectivity may increase the number of residential locations that offer a practical commute to workplaces.
However, the eventual impact on property demand will also depend on housing affordability, available supply, local infrastructure and the completion of the wider road network.
The inauguration of the Dindoshi Film City flyover represents progress within the GMLR project, although the full benefits of a direct Goregaon to Mulund connection depend on the remaining planned infrastructure.
As work on the broader corridor advances, its influence on commuting patterns, residential preferences and access to employment centres will become clearer.
