Hyderabad Innovators Reach Samsung Solve for Tomorrow Top 40 With Water and Athlete Safety Ideas

Thuregal Mohammed Ezaz Ali, Dokku Rithwik and Homanshika Reddy Pullagurla will advance to the Innovation Bootcamp at FITT IIT Delhi

Three 19 year old innovators from Hyderabad have been selected among the national Top 40 teams in the fifth edition of Samsung Solve for Tomorrow, with ideas addressing water availability and potential injury risks among athletes.
Thuregal Mohammed Ezaz Ali and Dokku Rithwik, working as team Mistify, are developing Hydryft, a compact system intended to collect water from fog and purify it.
The system uses mesh to capture moisture present in the air. The team is exploring its potential use in fog prone communities, trekking camps and eco stays where access to water can present challenges.

Their idea examines whether moisture already present in the surrounding air can be collected and converted into a usable water source.
Another Hyderabad participant, Homanshika Reddy Pullagurla, is working on athlete safety through her team Somatrace.
The team is developing a wearable system that uses sensors to monitor spinal movement in real time. The technology is initially being explored for rifle shooters, with the aim of helping athletes and coaches observe movement patterns and assess potential injury risks during training.
The two projects address different problems but share a focus on applying technology to practical situations. Hydryft examines alternative access to water, while Somatrace looks at how movement data could be used to better understand physical risks in sport.

The Hyderabad teams are among 40 teams selected nationally for this edition of Samsung Solve for Tomorrow.
More than half of the Top 40 teams are from Tier 2 and Tier 3 cities, indicating participation from young innovators beyond India’s largest urban centres.
The selected teams will now attend a 10 day Innovation Bootcamp at FITT IIT Delhi, where they will receive mentorship from startup founders and industry experts.
During the Bootcamp, participants will also visit Samsung research and development facilities in Delhi, Noida and Bengaluru, Samsung Design Delhi and the company’s Regional Headquarters in Gurugram.

The Top 40 will subsequently compete for places among the Top 20 teams. Those selected will receive additional support to develop their ideas ahead of the Grand Finale.
Four teams will ultimately be selected as winners and will collectively receive ₹2 crore in incubation grants. They will also receive incubation support from FITT IIT Delhi to continue developing their solutions towards market readiness.
Samsung Solve for Tomorrow is a CSR innovation programme for people aged 14 to 22. It uses design thinking, mentorship and practical learning to help participants develop ideas addressing problems they identify around them.
