Student Safety Pushes LPU to Expand Campus Surveillance and Access Controls

Lovely Professional University has deployed more than 7,200 CCTV cameras, over 200 trained security personnel, AI enabled face recognition access, dedicated anti ragging measures and a fully operational fire station to support the safety of more than 35,000 students.

Student safety is becoming an increasingly important consideration for families as higher education institutions welcome students from across India and overseas. Alongside academic programmes and campus facilities, security measures now play a significant role in shaping the overall student experience.
Lovely Professional University has developed a campus security ecosystem that combines technology, trained personnel and institutional policies to support the safety of more than 35,000 students. The university has installed more than 7,200 CCTV cameras across the campus, supported by over 200 professionally trained security personnel, surveillance systems and dedicated control rooms that monitor the premises throughout the day.

Campus access is managed through AI enabled face recognition technology, allowing entry only to registered and authorised individuals. Turnstile gates and boom barriers further monitor movement across the campus.
The university also follows UGC anti ragging regulations through dedicated committees and squads, awareness programmes, orientation sessions, complaint mechanisms and continuous monitoring. According to the university, violations attract immediate disciplinary and legal action.
Alongside physical security, the campus maintains a drug free, alcohol free and smoke free environment. Security personnel remain on duty throughout the day to prevent the entry of narcotics and other prohibited substances, while surveillance and enforcement measures support a disciplined campus environment.

Emergency preparedness is supported by a fully operational fire station equipped with a fire truck, trained firefighters and firefighting infrastructure. The security ecosystem also includes professionally trained ex servicemen, dedicated women security personnel for girls’ hostels and continuous campus patrolling.
The university states that its EduRevolution initiative integrates entrepreneurship, technology and experiential learning into academics. Its Earn Your Fee Back model enables students to generate income through internships, live projects, startups and entrepreneurial ventures while pursuing their education.
As campus security continues to influence higher education choices, the university says its integrated approach is intended to provide students with an environment that supports learning, innovation and personal development.
