Carbon Markets Take Focus as BIMTECH and IAI Plan Three Professional Certification Programmes

The partnership begins with an online Carbon Credits and Carbon Markets course from September 19 to October 10, covering climate finance, regulation, risk and global market mechanisms

Birla Institute of Management Technology, known as BIMTECH, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Institute of Actuaries of India, IAI, to develop professional learning programmes in emerging areas including carbon markets and climate finance.
The agreement was signed by Dr. Pankaj Priya, Dean and Deputy Director, BIMTECH, and Dr. Ruchita Verma, Executive Director, IAI.
Under the collaboration, BIMTECH and IAI plan to jointly develop and deliver two to three certification programmes over the next year, combining expertise in management education and actuarial science.

The first initiative is the Certification Training Programme on Carbon Credits and Carbon Markets, designed for working professionals, corporate executives and sustainability practitioners seeking practical knowledge of the carbon economy.
The online programme is scheduled to run from September 19 to October 10, 2026.
It has been conceptualised and designed under the leadership of Dr. Prabina Rajib, Director, BIMTECH, who will also lead key sessions examining global carbon markets.
Topics include the EU Emissions Trading System, carbon market mechanisms such as Perform, Achieve and Trade, Energy Saving Certificates, CORSIA and Carbon Futures.

As carbon markets evolve, there is a growing need for professionals who understand how these markets function and the opportunities and risks they create. Our Certification Programme on Carbon Credits & Carbon Markets, developed as the first initiative under our partnership with the Institute of Actuaries of India, seeks to address this need by bringing together perspectives on carbon markets, finance, regulation and risk. Through this collaboration, we aim to build relevant, future-ready capabilities in areas that will increasingly influence businesses and professionals.”

The programme is intended for actuaries and actuarial students, finance and investment professionals, risk managers, ESG and sustainability professionals, policy specialists, consultants, corporate professionals and students interested in climate finance and sustainability.
Its curriculum will cover global climate concepts, carbon market mechanisms, net zero calculations, climate and sustainability risks, voluntary carbon markets and compliance requirements.
The course will be delivered through an interactive online format intended to connect conceptual learning with practical applications relevant to business and financial decisions.

The partnership brings together BIMTECH’s management education experience and IAI’s actuarial expertise as both institutions develop programmes addressing emerging professional requirements.
Following the Carbon Credits and Carbon Markets programme, additional certification initiatives are expected to be developed under the MoU over the next year.
