Agentic AI Enters Degree Programmes as KL Deemed to be University Partners HCL GUVI AI Labs

Koneru Satyanarayana, Chancellor, KL Deemed to be University, and Dr. Srinath, Dean, Student Skilling and Progression, KL Deemed to be University, outline plans to integrate AI across curricula, laboratories and projects, with students learning to develop intelligent agents and deployable applications

Artificial Intelligence will be progressively integrated across degree programmes, curricula, laboratories and student projects at KL Deemed to be University through a new collaboration with HCL Group’s HCL GUVI AI Labs.
The partnership was formalised through an MoU signed at the University’s Vaddeswaram campus on September 21. KL Deemed to be University has described the initiative as the Nation’s First Agentic AI Campus, powered by HCL GUVI AI Labs, with AI Powered Degrees.
The programme is intended to extend AI learning across disciplines rather than limit it to a standalone subject. Students will receive exposure to Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, Generative AI, Large Language Models and other emerging technologies, with opportunities to apply them within their respective fields of study.

A central part of the initiative will focus on teaching students to move from using existing AI tools to developing autonomous and semi autonomous AI agents.
Students will learn how intelligent systems can understand objectives, reason through complex tasks, plan multiple actions, access enterprise knowledge, interact with databases and applications, use external tools and APIs and carry out workflows based on context.

Universities must therefore move beyond offering AI as an individual subject and embed it across the learning ecosystem. Through our collaboration with HCL GUVI AI Labs, we aim to empower students across disciplines to progress from using AI tools to designing intelligent agents, developing deployable solutions and building meaningful products for real-world challenges.”

“Our vision is to prepare industry-ready professionals who combine technological expertise, creativity and entrepreneurial thinking with a strong commitment to ethical and responsible AI,” he added.
According to Dr. Srinath, Dean, Student Skilling and Progression, KL Deemed to be University, students will receive practical exposure to prompt engineering, Retrieval Augmented Generation, multimodal applications, intelligent chatbots, AI copilots, enterprise assistants, intelligent search, workflow automation and AI enabled decision support systems.
The programme will also cover programming, full stack development, cloud computing, databases, DevOps, cybersecurity and application deployment.

Project based learning will involve the development of functional AI applications addressing challenges across healthcare, education, agriculture, manufacturing, finance, retail, cybersecurity, smart cities, human resources, supply chains and enterprise automation.
Students will also work through different stages of AI product development, including identifying problems, preparing data, developing and testing applications, deployment and continuous improvement.

Industry led problem statements, hackathons, innovation challenges, research projects and product competitions are planned as part of the programme. Selected teams will be encouraged to develop prototypes further into products and startup ventures.
The initiative is also intended to prepare students for emerging roles including AI Engineer, Agentic AI Developer, Generative AI Engineer, Machine Learning Engineer, LLM Application Developer, AI Automation Engineer and AI Product Engineer.
The MoU ceremony was attended by HCL Group representatives Mr. Deepak Saravanan, AVP and National Head, AI Lab; Mr. Sandeep, Regional Head; and Ms. Sumita, Operations Head. KL Deemed to be University representatives included Dr. G. Pardha Saradhi Varma, Vice Chancellor, and Registrar Prof. Indu Pavan Kumar Konduru, along with Deans and other senior University officials.
