Four Month SFX and Prosthetic Makeup Diploma Launched by MET Institute of Mass Media in Collaboration With Kryolan
MET Institute of Mass Media has launched a four month Diploma in SFX and Prosthetic Makeup with ABC Makeup School, powered by Kryolan, offering practical training in character creation and portfolio development.

Dr. Priya Menon Nair, Director, MET Institute of Mass Media, outlines the programme’s focus on character creation, practical studio training and professional portfolios, while a live demonstration transforms actor and filmmaker Prammod Sanghee into a battle survivor.

MET Institute of Mass Media (MET IMM), under the Mumbai Educational Trust, has introduced a four month Diploma in SFX and Prosthetic Makeup in collaboration with the Academy of Beauty with Creativity (ABC) Makeup School, powered by Kryolan.
The programme is designed for students and aspiring makeup professionals interested in special effects, prosthetic creation and character design for films, television, OTT productions, theatre and advertising.
The diploma focuses on practical training in the technical and artistic processes involved in creating realistic characters and visual effects through makeup.
Students will learn the stages of character development, beginning with concept creation and progressing through sculpting, mould making, prosthetic application, colouring and final preparation for filming.

The curriculum also addresses how lighting, camera resolution and storytelling requirements influence makeup and prosthetic techniques during production.
Training will include interactive sessions, live demonstrations and character transformation projects intended to familiarise students with working conditions in professional studios.
A significant component of the four month programme is portfolio development.
Students will document their work throughout the course, including character sketches, sculpted designs, moulds, prosthetic applications and completed transformations.

The institute intends for graduates to finish the diploma with a portfolio demonstrating their practical abilities and creative work.
Dr. Priya Menon Nair, Director, MET Institute of Mass Media, said, “Character transformation is an art form that demands technical precision at every step – from the initial sculpt to the final application on set. This diploma isn’t just about learning techniques; it’s about experiencing the full journey of bringing imaginative characters to life. By pairing hands-on practical execution with global expertise from Kryolan’s Professional Make-up, we ensure our graduates step into the entertainment ecosystem with tangible, portfolio-proven skills.”
The diploma was formally inaugurated in Mumbai in the presence of representatives from the educational institution, makeup training sector and entertainment industry.

Attendees included Pankaj Bhujbal, Honorary Trustee, Mumbai Educational Trust; Vishakha Bhujbal, Senior Management Representative, MET; and Dr. Priya Menon Nair, Director, MET Institute of Mass Media.
Also present were Dr. Mukesh Sharma, Media Educator and Visionary Leader; Allen John, CEO, ABC Academy; Prammod Sanghee, actor and filmmaker; and Manmohan Thorat, educator and photographer.
A live demonstration conducted by a Kryolan trained artist formed part of the launch event.
During the demonstration, actor Prammod Sanghee was transformed into a battle survivor using special effects makeup techniques to recreate the appearance of injuries and a cinematic character.
The demonstration illustrated how prosthetic materials, makeup application and detailed finishing can be used to create realistic visual effects for screen productions.
According to the institute, the diploma is intended to prepare students for specialised creative roles involving prosthetic makeup, creature design, character styling and film special effects.
The programme also introduces skills relevant to production houses, advertising agencies and creative studios.
MET IMM has positioned the course as a response to demand for specialised makeup techniques across film, television, streaming productions and other visual media.
The collaboration brings together MET Institute of Mass Media’s educational resources and practical makeup training through ABC Makeup School, powered by Kryolan.
The institute stated that its approach will emphasise hands on experience, technical precision and documented creative work rather than cosmetic makeup training alone.
Students interested in the diploma can access programme information through the official MET Institute of Mass Media website.
