The Academia Industry AI Summit examined changing roles in finance and accounting, emerging skills and professional qualifications including US CPA, US CMA and EA
More than 2,500 students, academicians and industry representatives participated in an Academia Industry AI Summit organised by Lovely Professional University in association with Simandhar Education.
The programme focused on the impact of artificial intelligence and technology on finance, accounting and business roles.
More than 30 CFOs and senior industry professionals participated in the discussions, including representatives from PwC India, State Street, PKF and other organisations.
Sessions examined how the use of AI is changing finance and accounting functions, what employers are looking for in new professionals and how students can prepare for careers involving technology alongside conventional financial skills.
A fireside chat with Ashok Mittal, Chancellor of Lovely Professional University and Member of Parliament, Rajya Sabha, Punjab, was among the sessions held during the programme.
The discussion provided students with perspectives on changes taking place across higher education and professional careers.
Professional qualifications including the US CPA, US CMA and Enrolled Agent were also discussed during the event. The sessions looked at how such qualifications can complement university education for students considering careers in accounting, taxation, financial reporting, consulting and advisory services.
“The convergence of technology, academia and industry is increasingly important in preparing students for the future of work. At LPU, we are committed to creating opportunities that allow students to engage with industry leaders, understand emerging technologies and gain exposure to evolving career pathways,” said Dr. Col. Rashmi Mittal, Pro Chancellor, Lovely Professional University.
Dr. Sorabh Lakhanpal, Professor and Executive Dean, Student Welfare Wing, said such collaborations can help connect academic learning with skills being sought in professional environments.
Sripal Jain, Co Founder, Simandhar Education, said finance professionals will increasingly need to combine technical knowledge with an understanding of technology and international business practices.
Our engagement with LPU provides an opportunity to bring these conversations closer to students and help them understand how professional qualifications, industry exposure and emerging technologies are influencing finance careers,” Jain said.
Benjamin Wong, Director International, Becker, said the growing use of artificial intelligence in finance and accounting means professionals will need knowledge extending beyond traditional technical areas.
He pointed to technology, analytics and business knowledge as areas becoming relevant alongside professional finance and accounting skills.
The association between LPU and Simandhar Education focuses on industry and academic interaction, with students receiving exposure to professional education, industry perspectives and changing career opportunities across finance, accounting and business.
