The three day national conference from November 3 to 5 brings together clinicians, scientists, engineers and students, with insights from Dr. R. Jayanthi, Dr. Sunil K. Narayan, Prof. Sarit Kumar Das and Dr. Joy Varghese.
Regenerative Medicine Research Takes Centre Stage at SRM Medical College TRBB 2026 in Chennai
Chennai, November 5, 2026: SRM Medical College Hospital and Research Centre, through its Division of Medical Research, organised the National Conference on Translational Regenerative Biology and Bioengineering (TRBB 2026) from November 3 to 5, 2026.
The three day conference brought together researchers, clinicians, academicians, industry professionals and students to discuss developments in regenerative medicine, biomedical engineering and translational healthcare research.
The programme focused on the application of scientific discoveries to clinical challenges and the importance of collaboration across medical and engineering disciplines.
RESEARCH THEMES AND SCIENTIFIC SESSIONS
TRBB 2026 covered emerging areas including tissue regeneration, stem cell biology, biomaterials, organoids, lab on a chip technologies and theranostics.
The conference featured keynote lectures, invited talks, workshops, poster presentations and flash talks.
These sessions provided opportunities for participants to present research findings, discuss emerging methodologies and explore potential collaborations with specialists from different institutions.
Speakers and participants represented Indian Institutes of Technology, CSIR laboratories and other research organisations.
SRM MEDICAL COLLEGE EMPHASISES COLLABORATIVE RESEARCH
Dr. R. Jayanthi, Dean (Medical), SRMMCHRC, highlighted the importance of combining expertise from multiple scientific disciplines.
“The future of healthcare lies in collaborative research, bringing together clinicians, biologists, engineers, and researchers to transform scientific discoveries into meaningful improvements in human health.”
Her remarks addressed the role of interdisciplinary research in developing healthcare applications from scientific findings.
Dr. Sunil K. Narayan, Dean Research (MHS) and Convener, TRBB 2026, discussed the importance of connecting laboratory research with patient care.
“The ultimate goal of scientific research is to translate discoveries into better treatments for people suffering from diseases and injuries. Bridging the gap between basic science and clinical practice is essential to advancing healthcare and improving human lives.”
The conference placed this relationship between fundamental science and clinical practice at the centre of its discussions.
IIT MADRAS AND CLINICAL EXPERTS DISCUSS BIOMEDICAL INNOVATION
Prof. Sarit Kumar Das, V. Balakrishnan Chair, IIT Madras, drew attention to the complexity of biological systems and their relevance to engineering research.
“Whatever an engineer tries to design is already present in the human body, in a much better way.”
His remarks highlighted the value of studying biological processes when developing engineering solutions.
Dr. Joy Varghese, Director and HOD, Hepatology & Transplant Hepatology, Gleneagles Hospital, Chennai, addressed the potential of regenerative biology and bioengineering to contribute to future treatments.
“The future of healthcare lies in turning scientific discoveries into life-changing treatments. Regenerative biology and bioengineering offer exciting possibilities to transform medicine. Let us bring science and clinical practice together to create innovations that truly make a difference to human lives.”
The discussions reflected the importance of cooperation between laboratory researchers, biomedical engineers and practising clinicians.
KEYNOTE SPEAKERS AND ACADEMIC PARTICIPATION
The conference included keynote speakers Prof. Suman Chakraborty, IIT Kharagpur, and Prof. Sarit Kumar Das, V. Balakrishnan Chair, IIT Madras.
Researchers from IITs, CSIR laboratories and other institutions participated in the scientific programme.
TRBB 2026 also provided opportunities for young researchers and students to interact with experienced scientists, discuss their work and gain exposure to advanced research methods.
Poster presentations, flash talks and workshops formed part of the conference’s efforts to encourage academic participation.
CONNECTING SCIENTIFIC DISCOVERIES WITH HEALTHCARE
Through TRBB 2026, the Division of Medical Research at SRMIST highlighted the importance of bringing different disciplines together to address medical research challenges.
The conference examined how developments in regenerative biology, biomedical engineering and related technologies may contribute to future healthcare applications.
By facilitating scientific discussions and research interactions, the programme aimed to encourage collaboration between academic institutions, research laboratories, healthcare professionals and industry participants.
