Over 25,000 Cancer Screening Vouchers Distributed by HCG Cancer Hospital During Ganesh Chaturthi in Mumbai

HCG Cancer Hospital, Colaba, distributed more than 25,000 cancer screening vouchers during its five day Ganesh Chaturthi celebrations as part of a community awareness campaign focused on the importance of early cancer detection.
The initiative reached residents of Colaba and surrounding neighbourhoods through awareness sessions, community visits and voucher distribution. The hospital also extended the campaign to devotees attending its Ganapati Visarjan procession.
The celebrations began with Ganpati Sthapana performed by doctors and hospital staff. Clinicians and employees participated in the rituals while the hospital maintained patient safety, infection prevention and control measures throughout the celebrations.

Alongside the festivities, hospital teams visited communities near the Colaba facility to discuss the importance of regular cancer screening and the role of diagnostic tests in identifying cancer at an early stage.
Rupesh Choubey, Vice President, Regional COO, Maharashtra & MP, HCG Cancer Hospital, said, “Festivals bring people together and remind us of the importance of hope, positivity and togetherness. At HCG, we not only wanted to bring this hope for our patients and their families at the hospitals but also create an awareness amongst the local community on the importance of early cancer screening as well. Detecting any form of cancer at an early stage will also help patients seek the right treatment at the right time. This in turn will also help them live a long and dignified life as well.”

The awareness sessions provided information about regular screening and diagnostic procedures. Following these interactions, hospital volunteers distributed screening vouchers to community members.
Avik Chauhan, Cluster COO, HCG Cancer Hospitals, Mumbai, said, “Ganesh ji is a powerful symbol for all of us as He helps in warding off any evil. Thereby, this was an auspicious time to promote early cancer screening which in turn also helps individuals and their families detect, diagnose and treat cancer at an early stage. We are confident that in the coming days, we will promote a healthy practice of early screening and create a vigilant community for future generations as well.”

On the final day of the celebrations, the hospital organised a Ganapati Visarjan procession from its Colaba premises to Girgaon Chowpatty. Staff members distributed additional screening vouchers to devotees and residents along the route.
Voucher holders can access screening services that include Prostate Specific Antigen (PSA) testing, mammography, sonomammography, ultrasonography (USG) and PET CT scans. The appropriate examination depends on individual clinical requirements.
The hospital expects community members to use the distributed vouchers over the coming months.

HCG Cancer Hospital, Colaba, also known as HCG ICS Khubchandani Cancer Centre, provides specialised oncology services in Mumbai. Its facilities include radiation oncology technologies such as CyberKnife VSI and Radixact X9 TomoTherapy.
Through the Ganesh Chaturthi campaign, the hospital combined community participation in the festival with information about cancer screening and access to diagnostic services.
