Aahwahan Foundation and Steelcase support students at Karnataka Public School in Basavanagudi as the initiative reaches 5,986 bicycle distributions to date
Aahwahan Foundation, in collaboration with Steelcase, has distributed bicycles to schoolgirls at Karnataka Public School in Basavanagudi, Bengaluru, through its ongoing Project Udaan initiative.
The programme is intended to address transportation challenges faced by girls who travel long distances to attend school, particularly where access to convenient transport is limited.
Aahwahan Foundation has distributed 100 bicycles at Karnataka Public School in Basavanagudi so far. Across Project Udaan, the Foundation has distributed 5,986 bicycles to date.
The initiative uses bicycles as a practical mobility solution to help students reduce the time and transportation costs associated with travelling to school.
“Every girl deserves the opportunity to pursue her education without having distance or lack of transportation stand in her way. Through Project Udaan, we want to give girls not just bicycles, but confidence, independence, and the freedom to dream bigger. We are grateful to Steelcase for supporting this effort and helping us create meaningful opportunities for girls,” said Braja Kishore Pradhan, CEO and Founder of Aahwahan Foundation.
For girls in underserved communities, factors including long journeys, limited transportation options and financial constraints can make regular school attendance difficult. Project Udaan focuses on improving mobility so that these challenges do not become barriers to continuing education.
The programme also seeks to help girls remain connected with their education and pursue their academic aspirations while encouraging families and communities to recognise the importance of girls’ education.
Steelcase is supporting the initiative as part of the collaboration with Aahwahan Foundation.
“We are committed to advancing women’s empowerment and creating opportunities for girls to continue their education. We recognize that travel and transportation barriers can often prevent girls from reaching school and pursuing their studies. Supporting Project Udaan is an important step for us toward helping girls overcome these challenges and build a more confident, independent future,” said Rohit Sharma, Associate Director, Sales, South Region, Steelcase.
Project Udaan is an ongoing initiative, with Aahwahan Foundation planning to extend the programme to other government schools across Bengaluru and Karnataka, as well as cities elsewhere in India.
Through the expansion, the Foundation aims to reach more schoolgirls facing transportation barriers and support their ability to continue their education.
