Andhra Pradesh advances AMNS steel project with foundation laid for Rs 1.36 lakh crore plant

Andhra Pradesh, March 30, 2026: Andhra Pradesh has moved forward with the ArcelorMittal Nippon Steel project with the foundation laid for a Rs 1.36 lakh crore greenfield steel plant, marking a key development in the state’s industrial expansion.
The project, with a planned capacity of 17.8 million tonnes of finished steel annually, is expected to generate over one lakh jobs and contribute to manufacturing growth in the region.

The foundation ceremony was attended by Union Steel Minister H D Kumaraswamy, ArcelorMittal Chairman Lakshmi Mittal, and CEO Aditya Mittal, along with other industry stakeholders. Agreements focused on skill development were also signed to support employment generation linked to the project.
The project has seen discussions at earlier stages, but it has now progressed into execution with the completion of key approvals and supporting infrastructure. Developments include connectivity enhancements such as road links to national highways and provision of essential utilities required for large scale industrial operations.

With these steps, the project has transitioned from planning to on-ground implementation, reflecting a focus on infrastructure readiness and investor engagement.
The AMNS steel plant is expected to play a significant role in strengthening Andhra Pradesh’s position as a manufacturing hub, contributing to industrial output, employment, and long term economic growth.
