Recognition at India’s Most Respected Entrepreneurs Awards highlights the leadership of Ishwar Chand Agarwal, Founder and Executive Chairman of Genus Power Infrastructures Ltd., whose work in electronic and smart metering has shaped India’s power distribution reforms and created over 25,000 jobs.
Mumbai, March 05, 2026: Ishwar Chand Agarwal, Executive Chairman and Founder of Genus Group of Companies and Genus Power Infrastructure, has received the Hurun Industry Achievement Award 2025 to 2026 in recognition of his long standing contribution to India’s energy and electronics manufacturing sector.
The honour was presented at India’s Most Respected Entrepreneurs Awards, which recognises entrepreneurs who have built scalable enterprises while influencing the direction of their industries through innovation and sustained value creation. The recognition places Mr. Agarwal among prominent industrial leaders acknowledged for shaping key sectors of the Indian economy.
Over a five decade career, Mr. Agarwal has led the development of indigenous technology capabilities in energy measurement and power infrastructure. He founded Genus with the objective of advancing Indian engineering and electronics manufacturing within critical infrastructure sectors. Under his leadership, the organisation has grown from a single product enterprise into a diversified global energy solutions group driven by research, operational discipline and long term industrial growth.
Mr. Agarwal established Genus Power Infrastructure in Jaipur in 1996. Since then, the Genus Group of Companies has expanded across several sectors while maintaining a focus on power infrastructure and energy measurement technologies. His professional experience spans industries including coke, coal, sugar, finance, cement, paper, power, electronics, apparel and agro processing, along with extensive expertise in power infrastructure development. His leadership has also included business turnarounds, acquisitions and research driven expansion.
Local manufacturing has remained central to his vision. Indigenous electronics production and large scale employment generation have been integral to the company’s operations, with the Genus Group today supporting more than 25,000 direct and indirect employment opportunities across its ecosystem.
Commenting on the recognition, Ishwar Chand Agarwal, Founding Chairman, Genus Power Infrastructures Ltd., said, “This honour is deeply humbling, and belongs to the Genus institution we have built that is deeply rooted in Indian innovation, powered by our people and dedicated towards nation building. Our journey began with a simple belief that India must build its own world class electronics and power infrastructure solutions. We pioneered electronic metering long before the industry recognized the shift. Every milestone since then has been powered by the dedication of our people and the trust of our stakeholders. As India’s energy landscape evolves, we remain committed to innovation that drives sustainable progress while enabling large scale employment across our value chain.”
Mr. Agarwal has long advocated indigenous electronics design and manufacturing, promoting domestic capability decades before local manufacturing became a national policy priority. His early focus on electronic and smart metering technologies has contributed to the evolution of power distribution reforms and the development of digital grid infrastructure in India.
Under his leadership, Genus Power has recorded several industry milestones. Most recently, the company surpassed the deployment of more than one crore smart meters under the Government of India’s National Smart Grid Mission, reinforcing its position as a large scale smart metering technology provider.
The Hurun Industry Achievement Award 2025 to 2026 recognises not only Mr. Agarwal’s entrepreneurial journey but also the broader contribution of Genus Power in advancing indigenous technology and supporting the modernisation of India’s energy sector.
