Kuldeep Kaur of Guru Teg Bahadur Self Help Group felicitated by Cabinet Minister Taranpreet Sondh, ADC Abhimanyu Malik and Ropar MLA Dinesh Chadda for income generating initiative backed by Ambuja Cements CSR support
Punjab, February 23, 2026: Ambuja Cements, part of the diversified Adani Portfolio and among the world’s leading building materials solutions providers, has extended sustained livelihood support to Kuldeep Kaur, a member of the Guru Teg Bahadur Self Help Group in Ghanaouli village, Ropar district.
Kuldeep Kaur was honoured at a district level Republic Day function on January 26, 2026 for promoting one of the most effective income generating activities in the region. She was felicitated by Cabinet Minister Taranpreet Sondh, Additional Deputy Commissioner Abhimanyu Malik and Ropar MLA Dinesh Chadda.
Coming from a financially vulnerable household, Kuldeep faced significant hardship after marriage. Her husband earned ₹7,000 per month as a labourer, and her son required ongoing medical treatment. Seeking additional income, she joined the Self Help Group in 2005 and began knitting training in 2008 with support from Ambuja Cements under its community development initiatives.
Over time, she established a structured knitting enterprise, gradually expanding production and building a stable income stream. Her earnings enabled her to fund her son’s medical care, construct her own house and support her daughter’s education in the medical stream.
Recognising her progress and commitment, Ambuja Cements encouraged her to take on a training role. She now trains women across 20 villages, operates a wool shop and distributes knitting orders among Self Help Group members. During peak demand periods, her earnings reach up to ₹80,000 per month.
Her journey reflects the long term impact of skill development and community based livelihood programmes aimed at strengthening women’s economic participation in rural Punjab.
