Bengaluru, June 9, 2026: Aahwahan Foundation has launched Breathe Better India, Bengaluru’s Green Mission Against Air Pollution, an environmental initiative focused on improving the city’s green cover and addressing rising air pollution.
The initiative aims to mobilise citizens, institutions, corporate organisations and local communities for plantation drives and ecological restoration programmes across Bengaluru.
The foundation said Bengaluru is facing growing environmental pressure due to rapid urbanisation, vehicular emissions, traffic congestion and shrinking green spaces. As part of the initiative, tree plantation drives will be undertaken along roadsides, metro corridors, public parks, lakes, government schools, colleges and other urban locations.
“Air pollution has emerged as one of Bengaluru’s most pressing environmental challenges. While infrastructure growth is important, it must be balanced with environmental sustainability. Trees remain one of the most effective natural solutions for reducing pollution and improving urban air quality. Through Breathe Better India, we aim to create a city-wide movement that encourages every citizen to participate in making Bengaluru cleaner, greener, and more breathable for future generations,” said Braja Kishore Pradhan, Environmentalist and Founder, Aahwahan Foundation.
The foundation plans to work with stakeholders and civic bodies to support greening efforts along Bengaluru’s metro corridors. Proposed activities include planting trees, shrubs and green buffers along road dividers and transit routes to absorb vehicular emissions, reduce dust pollution and improve the urban landscape.
Aahwahan Foundation also plans to undertake plantation and restoration work around parks and lakes. The initiative will focus on native and climate resilient tree species to improve biodiversity, reduce urban heat, support natural air filtration and create healthier community spaces.
The campaign will also include plantation programmes in government schools and colleges across Bengaluru. Students will be encouraged to participate in tree planting and tree care activities to build environmental awareness and improve green spaces within educational campuses.
Aahwahan Foundation is inviting individuals, families, educational institutions, corporate organisations, resident welfare associations and community groups to participate by planting and nurturing trees in their neighbourhoods.
Through Breathe Better India, the foundation aims to create a community led movement for cleaner air, stronger urban ecosystems and a greener Bengaluru.
Founded in 2009, Aahwahan Foundation works with economically disadvantaged communities through employment generation, poverty reduction and community development initiatives.
