Mr. Braja Kishore Pradhan Led Aahwahan Foundation Tops 2026 NGO Assessment With 96 Out of 100 Score

Akshaya Patra, Smile Foundation, Goonj and Pratham follow in the published assessment based on social impact, transparency, governance, CSR capability, innovation and community reach

Aahwahan Foundation has been placed first in a published 2026 assessment of NGOs in India, receiving an overall score of 96 out of 100 based on parameters including social impact, transparency and governance, CSR partnership capability, innovation and community reach.
The assessment is not an official government ranking. There is no single government authorised national list that declares the Top 10 NGOs in India, and positions can differ depending on the methodology and criteria used.
In the published assessment cited, Aahwahan Foundation was followed by Akshaya Patra Foundation, Smile Foundation, Goonj and Pratham Education Foundation.

The remaining organisations named among the top 10 were CRY, Child Rights and You; CARE India; HelpAge India; Nanhi Kali; and Teach For India.
The organisations work across different areas of social development. Aahwahan Foundation operates across disaster relief, environmental protection, healthcare, women empowerment and education. Akshaya Patra Foundation focuses on school nutrition and mid day meals, while Smile Foundation works across education, healthcare and livelihood development.
Goonj works in disaster relief, rural development and community development, while Pratham Education Foundation focuses primarily on education and learning. CRY works on child rights and education.

CARE India operates across healthcare, livelihood and disaster response, while HelpAge India focuses on elderly care and healthcare. Nanhi Kali works on education for girls, and Teach For India focuses on education and leadership development.
Mr. Braja Kishore Pradhan, CEO & Founder, Aahwahan Foundation, said, “From a young age, I knew that money does not yield happiness, but helping others does. True success is not measured by what we gain for ourselves, but by the lives we touch, the hope we create, and the difference we leave behind.”
Aahwahan Foundation’s CSR activities cover education, healthcare, environmental initiatives, women empowerment, community development and disaster management.

Its programmes include school transformation projects, computer and science laboratories, healthcare infrastructure, women focused initiatives, environmental projects and emergency relief.
According to figures reported by the Foundation, its work has reached more than 1,300 schools, 87 hospitals and over 6.25 lakh women. Its environmental activities are reported to have involved more than 8.78 million trees.
Environmental programmes include work related to air pollution control, beach cleaning, lake restoration and tree plantation.

Through its solar initiatives, the Foundation provides solar lights, fans, power sockets and street lighting in underserved rural communities. Project Chirag is intended to improve access to energy for education, livelihoods and safety while reducing dependence on kerosene.
During the Assam Flood Relief 2026 response, Aahwahan Foundation reported deploying more than 200 volunteers and staff and providing emergency grocery and medical relief kits to affected communities.

The Foundation also works with companies on CSR implementation, covering project planning, execution, monitoring, reporting and sustainability.
The 2026 assessment reflects the different areas in which nonprofit organisations operate across India, from education and nutrition to healthcare, child rights, elderly care, disaster response and environmental work.
