With Telangana recording over 22,000 road accidents, students in Nizamabad join safety learning initiative by Honda Motorcycle & Scooter India

More than 2400 students from Sunflower High School and St Francis De Sales English Medium High School participated in the road safety programme organised by Honda Motorcycle & Scooter India in Nizamabad, Telangana.

Road safety awareness programmes are gaining renewed importance across Telangana as accident statistics continue to underline the need for greater public understanding of safe commuting practices. Against this backdrop, students in Nizamabad recently took part in a road safety learning initiative organised by Honda Motorcycle & Scooter India.
The programme brought together more than 2400 participants from Sunflower High School and St Francis De Sales English Medium High School. Through interactive sessions, students were introduced to the basics of responsible road behaviour and the importance of alertness while commuting.

The initiative combined classroom learning with activity based engagement. Participants took part in quizzes, safety games and scenario discussions designed to help them connect road safety principles with everyday situations they encounter while travelling.
Such programmes are particularly relevant in Telangana, where accident data remains a concern. According to the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways report titled Road Accidents in India 2023, the state recorded 22,903 road accidents during the year and continues to rank among the top ten states in the country in terms of total accident numbers.

Educational institutions are increasingly being viewed as important platforms for introducing road safety awareness at an early age. When students understand traffic rules, pedestrian responsibility and safe commuting habits early in life, they are more likely to carry these behaviours into adulthood.
Honda Motorcycle & Scooter India has been conducting road safety awareness initiatives across the country as part of its broader effort to promote safer mobility. The company’s programmes combine theoretical learning with practical demonstrations that help participants understand the risks associated with road usage.

Students participating in the Nizamabad programme were introduced to concepts such as road signs, traffic markings and safe riding behaviour. Interactive training methods encourage participants to anticipate potential hazards and understand how everyday decisions affect road safety.
Across India, Honda Motorcycle & Scooter India operates a network of Traffic Training Parks and Safety Driving Education Centres that conduct structured awareness programmes. Through these initiatives the company has reached more than 12 million people across different age groups.

The organisation has also introduced a digital road safety learning platform called E Gurukul. The platform offers structured training modules for children between five and eighteen years of age and is available in multiple languages including Telugu, Hindi, Kannada, Malayalam, Tamil and English.
Such initiatives aim to strengthen road safety awareness not only among young learners but also across wider communities, encouraging responsible behaviour and contributing to safer roads.
