South Central Railway leads Hyderabad to Chennai rollout with digital workflow integration and real time parcel tracking
Hyderabad, February 26, 2026: Indian Railways has introduced RailParcel, a pilot initiative designed to streamline parcel transportation by rail across seven cities, including Hyderabad, Vijayawada, Guntur, Rajahmundry, Visakhapatnam, Bengaluru and Chennai. The programme is being implemented under the leadership of the South Central Railway zone.
The initiative is powered by ROQIT, a digital platform developed by AION-Tech Solutions Limited. The platform functions as the underlying technology layer for managing parcel workflows, coordinating operational stakeholders and integrating with existing railway systems during the pilot phase.
RailParcel is structured to improve efficiency in rail based parcel logistics through workflow digitization, enhanced shipment visibility and closer coordination between railway operations and logistics participants.
Bhanutej Mallangi, Chief Product Officer, ROQIT, said, “RailParcel represents an important step toward structured, digitally enabled parcel operations within the rail ecosystem. Through ROQIT, AION-Tech Solutions is establishing a foundational technology layer that enhances operational visibility and standardizes workflows across touchpoints. As the pilot progresses, the insights generated can support scalable, data driven logistics operations across the rail network.”
Under the current proof of concept deployment, ROQIT enables real time parcel tracking across operational touchpoints, digitized booking and operational workflows, integration readiness with third party logistics service providers and interoperability with existing railway systems, including Centre for Railway Information Systems.
The pilot is focused on building a reliable and interoperable digital foundation while remaining compatible with Indian Railways’ existing infrastructure. The programme aligns with Indian Railways’ broader objective of improving logistics efficiency through digitization, strengthening multimodal connectivity and leveraging its predominantly electrified network to support more sustainable freight movement.
RailParcel is expected to contribute to improved utilisation of rail based logistics capacity, particularly given the scale of the national electrified network and its cost efficient freight operations. Subject to pilot outcomes, subsequent phases may explore expanded network optimisation, data driven decision support systems and deeper multimodal coordination across transport networks.
The initiative reflects Indian Railways’ ongoing efforts to modernise logistics operations through targeted digital adoption while reinforcing rail as a scalable and sustainable mode for parcel transportation.
