Shri S. Radhakrishnan, Chief General Manager at State Bank of India, flagged off the run as more than 4000 participants including students, corporate teams and defence personnel joined the eco-focused race organised at the University of Hyderabad campus.
Hyderabad, March 8, 2026: Sustainability and community fitness came together as SBI Green Marathon Season 6 brought together more than 4000 participants for an environmentally conscious race experience at Sukoon Grounds inside the University of Hyderabad campus.
The marathon, part of a nationwide series spanning multiple cities including Lucknow, Chandigarh, Bhopal, Visakhapatnam, Bengaluru, Guwahati, Kolkata, Ahmedabad, Thiruvananthapuram, Jaipur, Patna, Mumbai and Chennai, continued its message of encouraging healthier lifestyles while promoting responsible environmental practices.
Participants from diverse groups including professional runners, students, families, corporate teams, fitness communities and defence personnel took part in the event. The scenic university campus provided a green setting for the race, reflecting the event’s larger message of sustainability and collective environmental responsibility.
The run was flagged off by Shri S. Radhakrishnan, Chief General Manager; Shri Ravi Kumar Verma, General Manager Network I; Shri Satish Kumar, General Manager Network II; and Shri Pankaj Priyadarshi, Deputy General Manager and Chief Development Officer. Mr. Sushanta Panda, India Operations Head at Radio Mirchi, and Mr. Ravi Chaitanya, South Head at Radio Mirchi, were also present during the event.
In line with its sustainability focus, the marathon incorporated several eco-conscious measures. Participants received organic race T-shirts, plantable bib numbers designed to reduce waste, and reusable cloth goodie bags. Dedicated waste management arrangements were also implemented to ensure responsible disposal and segregation during the event.
Radio Mirchi presenters RJ Chakshu and RJ Swathi added energy to the event through stage interactions and live engagement with participants, helping maintain a lively atmosphere throughout the morning.
The marathon featured three race categories including 5K, 10K and Half Marathon distances. The race routes were certified by the Association of International Marathons and Distance Races, ensuring globally recognised course accuracy and safety standards for runners.
As the SBI Green Marathon Season 6 continues its journey across cities, the Hyderabad leg highlighted how fitness initiatives can also serve as platforms for spreading environmental awareness and encouraging communities to adopt sustainable practices.
