Smt. Chayna Devi from Chhatatand village now earns over ₹1 lakh annually through vegetable cultivation after receiving training, seeds and solar irrigation support through an initiative by ACC.
Jharkhand, March 06, 2026: A rural livelihood initiative supported by ACC is helping women farmers in Jharkhand improve agricultural productivity and income through sustainable farming practices.
In Chhatatand village of Dhanbad district, Smt. Chayna Devi has transformed her small farm into a source of stable income after receiving training, seeds and irrigation support through the programme. The initiative focuses on equipping rural farmers with modern cultivation techniques, improved inputs and access to reliable water sources.
Chayna Devi began cultivating vegetables on a small plot of land measuring about 10 dismil. With seeds and technical guidance provided through the programme, she initially grew peas and harvested around 400 kilograms of produce, generating approximately ₹16,000 in income.
Encouraged by this outcome, she expanded her cultivation to include multiple vegetable crops. Through diversified farming and improved agricultural practices, Chayna Devi now earns more than ₹1 lakh annually from vegetable cultivation.
“Before this, our farm was only for our own use. Today, I contribute significantly to my family’s income,” said Chayna Devi.
The initiative includes collaboration with agricultural experts who guide farmers on soil preparation, crop planning and efficient resource use. Access to solar lift irrigation has further supported farmers by improving water availability for cultivation.
By combining skill development with resource support, the programme aims to help rural families transition from subsistence agriculture to income generating farming activities.
ACC continues to support community development initiatives that promote sustainable agriculture, livelihood improvement and economic resilience in rural communities.
