Palak Agarwal, Director, Narayan Seva Sansthan, says collaboration with Andhra Pradesh MedTech Zone Limited supports Vision 2030 goal of delivering 1 lakh artificial limbs
Mumbai, February 17, 2026: Andhra Pradesh MedTech Zone Limited, a Government of Andhra Pradesh enterprise, has signed a five year Memorandum of Understanding with Narayan Seva Sansthan to co develop and manufacture affordable prosthetic, orthotic and assistive technologies.
The agreement brings together AMTZ’s medical technology infrastructure and Narayan Seva Sansthan’s rehabilitation and clinical expertise. The partnership supports the non profit’s Vision 2030 objective of delivering one lakh artificial limbs across India.
According to Census 2011 data, India has 2.68 crore persons with disabilities. Movement disability accounts for 54.36 lakh individuals, hearing impairment for 50.72 lakh, and visual impairment for 50.33 lakh. Nearly 69.49 percent of persons with disabilities reside in rural areas, underscoring the need for accessible and affordable assistive devices.
Palak Agarwal, Director, Narayan Seva Sansthan, said, “Through our partnership with AMTZ, we aim to make advanced prosthetics and assistive technologies more affordable and accessible across India. Our goal is to expand mobility and independence while progressing towards our Vision 2030 commitment of reaching one lakh beneficiaries.”
Currently, a standard artificial limb provided by Narayan Seva Sansthan costs approximately ₹10,000. Advanced above knee prosthetics fitted with pneumatic knee joints and carbon foot components cost about ₹41,000 due to imported inputs. The collaboration seeks to reduce this cost to nearly ₹10,000 through indigenous manufacturing while maintaining performance standards.
Under the agreement, AMTZ will provide access to research laboratories, prototyping facilities and technical support. Narayan Seva Sansthan will oversee clinical validation, rehabilitation protocols and nationwide assistive device camps. Both organisations will jointly pursue research grants, patent filings and funding opportunities to scale production.
The partnership covers powered and myoelectric prosthetics, sports and cosmetic limb solutions, orthotic devices including diabetic foot management tools and walking braces, mobility aids such as walkers, wheelchairs and crutches, and advanced hearing devices.
The five year pact positions indigenous production at the centre of efforts to expand access to performance based prosthetic and assistive technology in India.
