Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu urges Chief Justice of India Justice Surya Kant to back National Judicial Academy in Amaravati, announces Rs 10,000 incentive for mediated case settlements at state symposium in Vijayawada

Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu has appealed to Chief Justice of India Justice Surya Kant to establish the National Judicial Academy in Amaravati, positioning the capital region as a future centre for judicial infrastructure and reform.
The request was made during a state level symposium on mediation titled Dialogue as Cornerstone of Justice, organised by the Andhra Pradesh State Legal Services Authority in Vijayawada. Justice Surya Kant attended the conference, where he was welcomed by the Chief Minister and Chief Justice of the Andhra Pradesh High Court Justice Dhiraj Singh Thakur.

Addressing the gathering, the Chief Minister outlined plans to develop a dedicated Justice City in Amaravati as part of the capital’s broader infrastructure framework. He stated that the proposed Judicial City would integrate key institutions including a Judicial Academy, Legal Services Authority, Mediation Centre, International Law University, and the Bar Council of India. The state government, he said, is prepared to allocate the required land for these institutions.
N Chandrababu Naidu assured full support from the state government for the establishment of the National Judicial Academy in Amaravati and sought the cooperation of the Chief Justice of India to advance the proposal.

Emphasising the role of mediation in dispute resolution, the Chief Minister recalled traditional village level mechanisms where elders facilitated settlements. He announced that Rs 10,000 would be provided for cases resolved through mediation and Rs 3,000 even in instances where mediation efforts do not result in settlement. He stated that faster dispute resolution through mediation would contribute to development by reducing litigation burdens.
Referring to the development of Amaravati, the Chief Minister said more than 29,000 farmers had voluntarily contributed land under the land pooling system for the capital project. He added that Amaravati is being planned as an environmentally sustainable and economically strong capital.
Judges of the Supreme Court and High Court, advocates, and senior officials were present at the symposium.
