Carmen Becker, President of Honeywell Sensing Solutions, said the sensor is designed to detect methane, propane and butane across mining, oil and gas and manufacturing environments

Industrial safety technologies are evolving as companies focus on improving hazard detection in high risk environments, with Honeywell introducing a new gas sensing solution for industrial use.
The company has launched its 4 Series NDIR Hydrocarbon Gas Sensor, designed to detect flammable gases such as methane, propane and butane across sectors including mining, oil and gas, petrochemical and manufacturing.

The sensor uses non dispersive infrared technology to identify gas presence and is designed for integration into both fixed systems and portable gas detectors used by workers in the field and within industrial facilities.
The system is built to operate in challenging environments, including underground mines, processing plants and refineries. It includes an integrated condensation reduction system to maintain performance in humid conditions and confined spaces.

Carmen Becker, President of Honeywell Sensing Solutions, said, “In gas detection, the accuracy, precision and reliability of the sensing solution is crucial for worker safety. Our new flammable gas sensor reflects our focus on advancing safety through technology.”
Compared to conventional catalytic sensors, the infrared based system offers resistance to degradation in harsh environments, reducing the risk of sensor failure and false alerts.

The sensor is also designed for lower power consumption, supporting longer operational life for portable detection devices used by industrial workers.
The development reflects increasing emphasis on workplace safety technologies as industries look to improve monitoring systems and reduce risk in hazardous operating conditions.
