Sivani K of Queen Mary’s College and Santhosh Kumar S of University of Madras were selected among 20,000 participants, with projects on smart traffic management and AI based pest detection

Chennai, June 4, 2026: Two students from Chennai have been recognised among the national toppers in Samsung Innovation Campus 2025, a technology skilling programme focused on emerging fields such as artificial intelligence, Internet of Things, coding and big data.
Sivani K, a second year B.Sc. student at Queen Mary’s College, and Santhosh Kumar S, a first year M.Sc. student at University of Madras, were selected among four national toppers from more than 20,000 participants across India.

As part of the programme, Sivani developed an IoT enabled Smart Traffic Management System aimed at improving traffic movement and reducing congestion in urban areas. The project explores the use of connected technologies to help cities manage mobility challenges.
Santhosh created an AI powered pest detection and control model designed to help farmers identify crop threats at an early stage. The project focuses on timely intervention and improved agricultural productivity through technology.

The students were felicitated at Samsung India’s headquarters in Gurugram by Mr. JB Park, President and CEO, Samsung Southwest Asia. They also visited Samsung R&D Institute, Noida, Samsung R&D Institute Delhi and Samsung Design Delhi, where they interacted with technology leaders and learned about Samsung’s design and product development processes.
Sivani said, “Through the Smart Traffic System project, I realised how technology can be applied to solve problems that affect everyday life. The experience gave me confidence that students can build solutions with real social impact.”

She added, “I believe I am standing here today because I did not give up when things were challenging. As a girl, I had never travelled far from my hometown on my own. Yet today, I am here in Delhi, the capital of India, standing at Samsung’s headquarters. It is a proud and privileged moment for me.”
Santhosh said, “Working on an AI-powered pest detection model showed me how technology can support farmers and address real-world challenges. It strengthened both my technical skills and confidence.”
Samsung Innovation Campus is part of Samsung’s global citizenship initiative and offers technology training, project based learning and industry exposure to young learners.
For SIC 2025, Samsung India felicitated 30 students from across India and awarded each topper Rs. 1 lakh for strong performance across artificial intelligence, coding and programming, Internet of Things and big data courses.
