University generated 5.90 million kWh of clean electricity in FY26, meeting over 50 per cent of campus power needs through renewable energy.

KL Deemed to be University (KLEF) has been recognised with the First Runner-Up Award in the “Best Application & Uses of Renewable Energy” category at the 10th CII National Energy Efficiency Circle Competition 2026, organised by the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) at the India Habitat Centre in New Delhi.
The national competition brought together 142 organisations and more than 350 delegates from across the country, recognising institutions and industries for excellence in energy efficiency and sustainable practices.

The award was received by D. Seshi Reddy, Associate Dean, Planning and Development, and Dr. K. J. Brahma Chari, Associate Dean, Planning and Development, on behalf of the university. The ceremony was attended by P. Shyam Sunder, Director, Bureau of Energy Efficiency, Ministry of Power; Abhishek Gupta, Head, International Appliances, Rooftop Solar and PE&A, Energy Efficiency Services Limited; and Vivek Thakur, Executive Chairperson, CII Haryana.
KLEF received the recognition for its large-scale deployment of renewable energy systems, adoption of energy-efficient technologies and implementation of smart campus energy management practices.

The university has installed a renewable energy capacity of 3,854.81 kWp, generating 5.90 million kWh of clean electricity during the 2025–26 financial year. The renewable energy generated met 50.9 per cent of the campus’s total electricity requirement.
Its renewable energy infrastructure includes rooftop solar plants, elevated solar installations, hybrid solar and wind systems, battery-backed renewable power solutions and next-generation high-efficiency solar panels.

Over the last four years, KLEF has significantly expanded its renewable energy programme. Clean energy generation increased from 1.99 million kWh in 2022–23 to 5.90 million kWh in 2025–26, representing a 196 per cent increase. The university has also deployed more than 3,500 smart energy meters and reduced its Energy Performance Index by 34 per cent through advanced monitoring and conservation measures.
These initiatives helped prevent an estimated 4,189 tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions during 2025–26, while cumulative avoided emissions over the past four years have exceeded 11,785 tonnes.
Commenting on the achievement, Er. Koneru Satyanarayana, Chancellor, KL Deemed to be University, said, “Sustainability is not merely an initiative at KLEF; it is an integral part of our institutional vision. This national recognition from CII reflects our long-term commitment to building net-zero carbon campuses through renewable energy, energy-efficient infrastructure and responsible resource management. As an educational institution, we believe it is our responsibility to demonstrate sustainable practices while inspiring future generations to build a cleaner, greener and more resilient world.”
The recognition further strengthens KLEF’s position in sustainable campus development. Backed by its ISO 50001:2018 Energy Management System certification, green building initiatives and continued investment in renewable energy infrastructure, the university continues to integrate sustainability into its academic, research and operational activities.
