Prof. Rajeev Ahuja, Director, IIT Ropar, said the Yuva Sangam initiative under Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat strengthens national integration through cultural exchange, academic engagement and people to people connections between Punjab and Bihar.
Ropar, June 2026: The Indian Institute of Technology Ropar hosted the inaugural ceremony welcoming the Bihar delegation under Yuva Sangam Phase VI, a flagship youth exchange programme of the Department of Higher Education, Ministry of Education, Government of India.
The ceremony was held at the Senate Hall of IIT Ropar and was presided over by Prof. Rajeev Ahuja, Director, IIT Ropar.
The delegation from Bihar, hosted by IIT Patna, received a traditional welcome upon arrival at the IIT Ropar campus. Students, faculty members and staff welcomed the participants with floral garlands, marking the beginning of their six day educational and cultural visit to Punjab.
Addressing the gathering, Prof. Rajeev Ahuja said Yuva Sangam is more than a cultural exchange programme and serves as an important platform for strengthening national integration. He said interactions between young people from Bihar and Punjab would help build lasting relationships and promote mutual understanding between the two states.
Prof. Ahuja also recalled the departure of the Punjab delegation to Bihar on May 22, 2026, noting that the return visit completes an important exchange under the programme.
IIT Ropar has been designated as the nodal institution for Punjab under Yuva Sangam Phase VI and is paired with Bihar under the Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat initiative of the Ministry of Education.
The programme is structured around five themes including Paryatan, Parampara, Pragati, Paraspar Sampark and Prodyogiki, focusing on tourism, culture, development, people to people connect and technology.
Phase VI of Yuva Sangam involves 22 higher education institutions from across the country and seeks to strengthen connections between young citizens from different states through immersive learning experiences.
During their stay in Punjab, the Bihar delegation will participate in academic interactions, laboratory visits at IIT Ropar, community engagement programmes and visits to historical and cultural landmarks. The itinerary has been designed to provide participants with first hand exposure to Punjab’s heritage, governance initiatives and technological advancements.
The programme aims to encourage greater understanding of India’s cultural diversity while promoting collaboration, learning and national unity among young people.
