Kalyani Brahmbhatt Memorial Merit Scholarship offers 60 percent tuition support to eligible undergraduate and postgraduate students
GIFT City, Gujarat, 4 January 2026: University of Wollongong India has announced the Kalyani Brahmbhatt Memorial Merit Scholarship, a new initiative aimed at supporting meritorious students from economically disadvantaged backgrounds by reducing financial barriers to higher education.
The scholarship has been instituted in memory of Ms Kalyani Brahmbhatt, a member of the university’s core India team, who lost her life in an aviation accident last year. The initiative reflects her belief in education as a pathway to opportunity, discipline, integrity, and long term personal growth.
Through the scholarship, UOW India seeks to enable high potential students to pursue higher education based on merit and commitment, irrespective of financial circumstances. One eligible student from each of the university’s partner institutions will be awarded a 60 percent tuition fee scholarship for every year of study, subject to meeting defined merit and continuation criteria.
The scholarship is applicable to full time, on campus undergraduate and postgraduate degree programmes offered at the UOW India GIFT City campus. Selection will be conducted through the university’s partner institutions, with renewal awarded annually based on continued eligibility.
Speaking on the announcement, G Q Max Lu AO, Vice Chancellor and President of the University of Wollongong, said the scholarship reflects the university’s commitment to ensuring that financial constraints do not hinder academic potential. He said the initiative seeks to support deserving students while honouring the memory of Kalyani Brahmbhatt, who was an integral part of the university community.
Aligned with national education priorities, the scholarship follows merit cum means principles consistent with Government of India scholarship frameworks. Eligibility criteria include a minimum of 75 percent in the most recent qualifying examination and a gross annual family income below ₹5 lakh.
UOW India said the scholarship is strictly merit based and need linked, and does not constitute a reservation, quota, or category based entitlement. The initiative is intended to widen access to higher education while maintaining academic excellence as a core value.
Through the Kalyani Brahmbhatt Memorial Merit Scholarship, the university reiterated its focus on inclusive, globally benchmarked education in India, while fostering a culture of responsibility, academic integrity, and long term impact among its student community.
