The initiative, announced on World Blood Donor Day 2026, includes a specialised health package, a new donor card and awareness measures to encourage regular voluntary blood donation.
MGM Healthcare and MGM Cancer Institute have introduced an exclusive Master Health and Vaccination Package for repeat voluntary blood donors as part of their World Blood Donor Day 2026 observance.
The initiative aims to recognise regular donors while supporting their long-term health through a specialised health incentive and monitoring programme.
The package was launched by Managing Director Dr. Prashanth Rajagopalan along with Chief Operating Officers Nilesh and Padmanaban, who also unveiled the new MGM donor card.
Organised in line with the World Health Organization’s theme, “One Drop of Humanity. Give Blood. Save Lives.”, the event brought together healthcare professionals, NGOs, voluntary blood donors and hospital executives to promote regular and safe blood donation.
The hospital also honoured NGOs, first-time donors and repeat voluntary whole blood and blood component donors for their contributions.
As part of its donor engagement programme, MGM Healthcare launched a dedicated blood centre webpage that provides educational resources and online donor registration. The hospital has also introduced a 24×7 donor helpline, free parking for donors, digital access to non-reactive test reports, extended healthcare support from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m., awareness campaigns and community blood donation drives.
Delivering the keynote address, Dr. Shanmugha Priya R.A., Senior Consultant, Transfusion Medicine, MGM Healthcare, highlighted the need to build a culture of regular voluntary blood donation instead of relying on emergency donations.
She said the MGM Blood Centre collected more than 700 whole blood and blood component donations during June through donor motivation initiatives and NGO partnerships. She also highlighted the increasing demand for specialised blood components used in transplant and oncology care.
Dr. K. R. Balakrishnan, Chairman, Cardiac Sciences, Heart and Lung Transplant and Mechanical Circulatory Support, MGM Healthcare, said complex surgeries require a consistent supply of blood and blood components, making repeat voluntary donors essential for patient care.
Dr. M. A. Raja, Director and Senior Consultant, Medical Oncology, MGM Cancer Institute, highlighted the importance of specialised blood products such as Single Donor Platelets and granulocytes for patients undergoing cancer treatment and explained safe donation practices for apheresis procedures.
