Debashree Mukherjee, Secretary, Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship, said the competition will help Indian participants prepare for WorldSkills Shanghai 2026.
India has sent a 30 member contingent to Australia for the Global Skills Challenge 2026 as part of its preparation for the WorldSkills Competition in Shanghai.
The contingent includes 15 competitors and 15 experts who will represent Team India at the international skills event from 23 to 29 June 2026. The Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship held the send off in Mumbai on 22 June 2026.
Organised by WorldSkills Australia, the Global Skills Challenge is designed to recreate the conditions of the WorldSkills Competition. It allows participating countries to assess performance, test readiness and help competitors gain experience in an international contest setting.
The event will include four full days of skill contests, with marking and assessment supported by the Competition Information System. Nearly 600 competitors, experts, translators and officials from WorldSkills Member Nations are expected to participate.
Speaking on the occasion, Debashree Mukherjee, Secretary, Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship, said, “The Global Skills Challenge 2026 Australia is not merely a competition, but an important opportunity for Team India to gain international experience, sharpen their skills and prepare for the WorldSkills Competition in Shanghai. I encourage each competitor to listen closely to their experts, remain focused and disciplined, and make the most of every learning opportunity. Each one of them is already a champion for the country, and we are immensely proud of their journey. I wish Team India the very best as they move forward with confidence to make India proud on the global stage.”
Arunkumar Pillai, CEO, National Skill Development Corporation, said, “Each one of our candidate has earned their place here through a gruelling and highly competitive journey to become among the very best in India. This Global Skills Challenge 2026 Australia is the final stretch before Shanghai, and now is the time for even greater focus, discipline and determination.”
India will compete in 15 skill categories: 3D Digital Game Art, Additive Manufacturing, Automobile Technology, Beauty Therapy, Bricklaying, Cloud Computing, Floristry, Graphic Design Technology, Hairdressing, Health and Social Care, Industrial Mechanics, Painting and Decorating, Restaurant Service, Wall and Floor Tiling, and Web Technologies.
The event is expected to help Indian competitors understand international assessment systems, work under contest conditions and learn from participants and experts from different regions.
Manisha Sensarma, Senior Economic Advisor, MSDE, Hena Usman, Joint Secretary, MSDE, and other senior officials from MSDE and NSDC were present at the send off ceremony.
