Altroz Becomes India’s First Hatchback to Score 5 Stars Under Bharat NCAP

Tata Motors achieves a safety milestone as the Altroz secures top ratings across petrol, diesel, and CNG powertrains under the new Bharat NCAP assessment.

Tata Motors has created history by becoming the first manufacturer in India to receive a 5-star Bharat NCAP safety rating for a hatchback. The all-new Altroz has earned the coveted rating across petrol, diesel, and CNG variants, underscoring the automaker’s consistent focus on safety leadership.
The Bharat New Car Assessment Programme (Bharat NCAP), which was introduced to create localized safety benchmarks for Indian vehicles, evaluated the Altroz under Adult Occupant Protection (AOP) and Child Occupant Protection (COP) protocols. The Altroz scored 29.85 out of 32 in AOP and 44.54 out of 49 in COP marking one of the highest cumulative scores in its segment.

“Tata Motors has always been at the forefront of vehicle safety in India,” said Mr. Mohan Savarkar, Chief Product Officer, Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles Ltd. “The 5-star Bharat NCAP rating for the Altroz not only reinforces our engineering and safety commitment, but also makes it India’s safest hatchback across all fuel types.”

With over 500,000 units sold since launch, the Altroz has been widely recognized for its design, drivability, and now, class-defining safety credentials. The car is built on Tata’s ALFA (Agile Light Flexible Advanced) Architecture, which forms the foundation for its crash protection capabilities.

The Altroz had previously received a Global NCAP 5-star rating for its petrol model in 2020. This new Bharat NCAP rating makes it the first car in India to receive top-tier ratings under both global and domestic safety assessment programs.
