The draft, prepared in 50 days against a 100 day commitment, outlines plans for skilling, startups, public services, and governance, with public feedback open from May 4, 2026

Goa has taken a step to bring artificial intelligence into governance and public services, with Information Technology Minister Rohan Khaunte placing the draft AI policy in the public domain for feedback.
The document was prepared within 50 days, ahead of the 100 day timeline announced earlier, following consultations with industry leaders, academic institutions, and other stakeholders.

Speaking in Panaji, Khaunte said the policy is meant to be applied across sectors such as finance, tourism, and governance. He said opening the draft to public feedback will help shape a more practical and usable final version.
The policy focuses on building skills in artificial intelligence, supporting startups, improving public services, and strengthening research and infrastructure in the state. Under the Goa AI Mission 2027, the government also plans to develop local talent, work on large language models, and put in place checks around safety and accountability.

Khaunte said the larger aim is to ensure that technology benefits everyday citizens while preparing young people in Goa for a changing job market.
During the interaction, the Minister said the state is also examining whether social media access for children below 16 should be restricted. He added that discussions are ongoing on how AI based learning tools can be used as a more useful alternative.
The draft AI policy will be available on the State Portal, Goa Online Portal, and the DITE and C website from May 4, 2026, for 15 days. Citizens and stakeholders have been invited to review the document and share their inputs.
