AI Farming Assistant Reaches 10 Lakh Users as Digital Green Unveils FarmerChat 2.0
Digital Green India has launched FarmerChat 2.0 after its AI powered farming assistant crossed 10 lakh users across India, reflecting growing adoption of digital advisory tools designed to deliver trusted, localised guidance for crop planning, livestock care, pest management and weather related decisions.

Digital Green India’s multilingual platform has answered more than 30 lakh farming queries since 2024, with the upgraded FarmerChat 2.0 introducing personalised advisory, voice first interactions and image based assistance tailored to farmers’ crops, location and season.

Artificial intelligence is steadily reshaping agricultural advisory services in India, giving farmers faster access to information that can influence decisions throughout the crop cycle. Digital Green India has announced that its AI powered farming assistant, FarmerChat, has crossed 10 lakh users nationwide, alongside the launch of FarmerChat 2.0, an upgraded version designed around the way farmers increasingly interact with digital technology.
Introduced in October 2024, FarmerChat supports farmers and frontline extension workers by providing multilingual advisory across crop planning, pest and disease management, livestock care, weather updates and farm inputs. Available in five Indian languages, the platform is designed to function even in low connectivity areas, enabling users to seek guidance through voice, photographs or text.

According to Digital Green India, the platform has already responded to more than 30 lakh farming queries. Around 45 per cent of its users are women, while a third party evaluation by 60 Decibels found that nearly 60 per cent of active users act on the advice they receive and 91 per cent report greater confidence in making farming decisions.
FarmerChat combines fine tuned language models with Retrieval Augmented Generation technology and expert validated datasets. Responses are regularly reviewed by local agronomists and veterinarians, ensuring recommendations remain grounded in verified agricultural knowledge while continuing to improve through farmer feedback.

The latest version of the platform introduces several new features shaped by user behaviour. Digital Green observed that farmers increasingly preferred speaking to the assistant or sharing photographs from their fields instead of typing queries. FarmerChat 2.0 now places greater emphasis on voice interactions, image based advisory and personalised recommendations based on crops, location, season and previous interactions.
The redesigned interface also introduces advisory cards and suggested prompts that anticipate questions farmers may need to ask at different stages of cultivation, helping users receive guidance before problems arise rather than only after they occur.

Digital Green believes the platform also changes the economics of agricultural extension services. Traditional in person advisory can cost around ₹3,300 per farmer annually, while FarmerChat reduces that cost to approximately ₹33 per farmer each year, allowing advisory services to reach significantly larger farming communities.
Looking ahead, the organisation aims to add another 35 lakh farmers to the platform by 2028, with a focus on expanding participation among women farmers, encouraging climate smart agricultural practices and improving household incomes.

Commenting on the launch, Nidhi Bhasin, Chief Executive Officer of Digital Green India, said, “Everything in FarmerChat 2.0 came from listening to farmers. Through millions of interactions, they shared that they wanted advice suited to their crop, their season and their language, delivered the way they naturally communicate. The assistant was rebuilt around exactly that. The next step is the Agricultural AI Harness, an ecosystem foundation where trusted services for advisory, weather, markets and schemes plug in, powered by reasoning and memory that knows each farmer’s context.”
