Ravi Shankar Mishra, Product and Conversational Director at Netcore Unbxd, Nishant Jain, COO, Netcore Unbxd, and Nishant Arora, Senior Vice President of Marketing at Netcore, said the new capability brings image, text, and voice inputs into one ecommerce search experience to help retailers interpret shopper intent across visually driven categories.

Netcore Unbxd has announced the global launch of its Agentic Multimodal Search capability, as ecommerce platforms increasingly look for ways to interpret shopper intent across visual and language based inputs within a single search experience.
Announced from Mumbai on 30 March, the new capability is designed to help ecommerce systems understand shopper intent by combining image inputs with natural language queries, including typed and voice enabled searches. The company said the system can process intent even when spoken and written queries differ because of conversational phrasing, phonetic variation, or transliterated terms.

The launch reflects a wider shift in digital commerce, where search is moving beyond simple retrieval and toward systems that can interpret meaning from incomplete or varied inputs.
Ravi Shankar Mishra, Product and Conversational Director at Netcore Unbxd, said, “As commerce becomes more visual and AI led, shoppers shouldn’t have to translate intent into rigid search terms. Agentic multimodal search allows the teams to understand how shoppers see products and how they describe them, combining visual cues with language based refinement in real time.”

Traditional ecommerce search systems have often handled image search and text search as separate workflows. Netcore Unbxd said shoppers do not follow that split in practice, especially when they begin with visual inspiration and then narrow their search through details such as style, colour, material, or price. The new capability allows shoppers to upload an image and refine their search with language prompts in the same flow.
According to the company, the system evaluates visual and language signals together to build a more complete understanding of shopper intent. Results are then ranked using a mix of product popularity, user behaviour, geo location, freshness, semantic understanding, and relevance signals.

Netcore Unbxd said this approach is particularly useful for visually driven categories such as fashion, furniture, home decor, jewellery, and lifestyle products, where product discovery is often shaped as much by appearance as by specifications.
The company said the challenge for retailers is no longer intelligence alone, but how effectively systems can turn unclear or partial input into useful outcomes. In this model, relevance shifts from string matching to meaning matching, and from static rules to agentic reasoning.

Nishant Jain, COO, Netcore Unbxd, said, “Visual search answers what looks similar. Agentic multimodal search enables retailers to surface what aligns with the shopper’s intent by understanding both visual inspiration and descriptive context together.”
Netcore Unbxd linked the launch to the wider rise of agentic commerce, where AI systems are expected to move beyond recommendations and take accountable actions within defined boundaries. The company identified three forces driving this shift globally, namely mobile first behaviour, visually differentiated catalogues, and rising expectations from shoppers who want systems to understand intent across multiple forms of input.
In this environment, search is emerging as one of the first customer facing systems to move from passive retrieval toward active interpretation and execution. Netcore Unbxd said the capability can improve discovery across inspiration led journeys, long tail queries, and exploratory browsing, while also helping systems continue to perform when shopper input is vague or catalogue data is incomplete.
The company said it sees agentic multimodal search as a foundational capability in modern ecommerce infrastructure, supporting both traditional search behaviour and AI assisted shopping experiences.
Nishant Arora, Senior Vice President of Marketing at Netcore, said, “Search is becoming the first agent in the commerce stack. The ability to understand visual and language intent together is becoming essential as commerce experiences grow more dynamic and AI enabled.”
