Samsung’s Maintenance Mode creates a separate operating environment that keeps personal data inaccessible during servicing, while service centres across India guide users through activation before repairs.

Concerns around data access during smartphone servicing are becoming more prominent as devices increasingly store sensitive personal and financial information.
Samsung has introduced Maintenance Mode on its Galaxy devices to address this concern by allowing users to limit access to their data when handing over phones for repair. The feature creates a separate operating environment where technicians can carry out diagnostics without accessing personal files, applications or accounts.

Once activated, the device restricts access to only essential system functions required for servicing. Personal data including contacts, messages, photos and apps remains hidden within the user’s primary environment.
Users can exit Maintenance Mode through device authentication, after which all data and settings are restored without any changes.
The feature is designed to reduce hesitation users may experience when submitting devices for repair, especially in cases where smartphones are used for banking, communication and storing personal information.

Samsung is also expanding awareness around the feature through its service network in India. In store support includes guided assistance for enabling Maintenance Mode before devices are submitted for servicing, along with informational material to help users understand the process.
The activation process involves accessing device settings, selecting the maintenance option within device care and restarting the device to enter the restricted environment.
y separating user data from service access, the feature introduces an additional layer of control during the repair process, allowing technicians to complete their work without exposure to private information.
