Sree Chitra Tirunal Institute for Medical Sciences and Technology has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Tata Elxsi to collaborate on the development of advanced healthcare solutions for India and international markets.
SCTIMST is an Institution of National Importance operating under the Department of Science and Technology, Government of India. The partnership brings together its experience in clinical sciences, biomedical research and healthcare technology with Tata Elxsi’s capabilities in product engineering, design, artificial intelligence and digital technologies.
The agreement was signed at the SCTIMST campus in Thiruvananthapuram in the presence of senior representatives from both organisations. Attendees included Dr. Sanjay Behari, Director, SCTIMST, and Manoj Raghavan, Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director, Tata Elxsi, along with members of their healthcare, research and technology teams.
Through the collaboration, the organisations will explore opportunities across diagnostics, medical imaging, digital health, biomedical engineering, medical devices and other healthcare technologies. The initiative seeks to support the creation of solutions that respond to evolving clinical requirements while meeting the needs of Indian and global markets.
SCTIMST contributes expertise across cardiovascular sciences, neurosciences, biotechnology, clinical sciences and public health. Its institutional structure includes a Super Specialty Hospital, a Biomedical Technology Wing and the Achutha Menon Centre for Health Science Studies.
This combination of healthcare delivery, medical research and technology development provides a setting where clinical challenges can be studied alongside potential engineering solutions. The institute has also developed capabilities in areas such as biocompatibility and toxicology, which are important during the evaluation of medical products and technologies.
Tata Elxsi brings experience in healthcare product design, software development, regulatory compliance, cloud technologies, data systems and artificial intelligence. Its Healthcare and Life Sciences practice works with medical device manufacturers, pharmaceutical companies, biotechnology organisations, healthcare providers and digital health businesses.
The partnership has been designed to create an extended research, innovation and engineering environment for Tata Elxsi, its customers and healthcare partners. Clinicians, specialist researchers, engineering teams and product developers will be able to work within a connected ecosystem supported by laboratories, prototyping infrastructure and clinical knowledge.
This approach is expected to help medical technology companies move more efficiently through different stages of product development. These stages may include identifying clinical needs, developing concepts, creating prototypes, conducting technical evaluation, validating products and preparing them for wider use.
The Memorandum of Understanding also establishes a structure for joint research, academic engagement, technology development and intellectual property creation. Individual initiatives will be taken forward through collaborations designed around the requirements of each project.
The initial phase will focus on identifying a select group of opportunities with strong potential for joint development. These areas will be evaluated by teams from both institutions before specific projects are initiated.
