ER Raj Narayanan of UltraTech Cement Limited, C. Shekar Reddy of CII Indian Green Building Council, Masood Mallick of Re Sustainability Limited and Aparna Dutt Sharma of CMA India addressed cement sector decarbonisation, low carbon materials and circularity.
The 22nd edition of CII Green Cementech opened at the Hyderabad International Convention Centre with a focus on low carbon cement manufacturing, net zero pathways and cleaner industrial practices.
Organised by CII Green Business Centre in partnership with the Cement Manufacturers’ Association, India, the conference brought together more than 400 participants, including policymakers, senior industry leaders, technology providers, academic and research organisations and sustainability experts from India and overseas.
The annual conference and expo has become a platform for discussions around decarbonisation, digital adoption and technologies relevant to the future of cement manufacturing.
ER Raj Narayanan, Co Chairman, Green Cementech 2026, Business Head and Chief Manufacturing Officer, UltraTech Cement Limited, said, “The cement industry is not only contributing to India’s economic growth, but also laying the foundation for Viksit Bharat through resilient and sustainable infrastructure. The theme of Green Cementech 2026, ‘Road towards Net Zero Carbon,’ perfectly captures the direction in which the Indian cement sector is moving today.”
C. Shekar Reddy, National Chairman, CII Indian Green Building Council, said the use of low carbon materials will be important for green buildings and infrastructure as India works toward national climate goals. He said IGBC’s 32 regional chapters across India are creating awareness among architects, builders, engineers, urban planners, consultants and students on sustainable practices and low carbon construction methods.
Masood Mallick, Chairman, CII National Committee on Waste to Worth Technologies and Managing Director, Chief Executive Officer, Re Sustainability Limited, said the cement industry must adopt AI driven solutions and focus on material intelligence, waste use and performance based standards that support innovation with measurable results.
Aparna Dutt Sharma, Secretary General, Cement Manufacturers’ Association, India, said industry partnerships will play an important role in the future of decarbonisation. She said CMA, its members and partners such as CII are bringing policy, innovation and industry action onto one platform.
The event included the launch of the publication Carbon Capture: Technologies, Economics, and Scale up Pathways. It also featured panel discussions with senior industry leaders on net zero strategies and sessions on new technologies for cleaner cement manufacturing.
A concurrent expo featured more than 50 exhibitors presenting solutions in energy efficiency, emissions reduction and smart manufacturing. Green Cementech 2026 will continue on May 15 with technical sessions, leadership discussions and exhibition interactions.
