Immersive STEM Learning Spaces Take Root in Rural Udaipur as Hindustan Zinc Expands Education Initiative

Arun Misra, CEO and Whole Time Director, Hindustan Zinc, says three technology enabled labs across Bichchari and Zinc Smelter Government Schools aim to build scientific temperament and future ready skills

Udaipur, 2 March 2026: Hindustan Zinc has inaugurated three immersive STEM laboratories across government schools in Bichchari and Zinc Smelter areas of Udaipur district, advancing its education intervention in Rajasthan through technology enabled learning infrastructure.
Developed in collaboration with the Society for All Round Development, the new labs introduce structured, experiential learning environments designed to deepen engagement in science, technology, engineering and mathematics. The initiative is part of the company’s broader effort to upgrade government school infrastructure and integrate technology driven teaching aids across 76 schools in Rajasthan.

The STEM Labs are designed to move beyond textbook learning by encouraging experimentation, inquiry and activity based exploration. Equipped with immersive learning tools, the facilities aim to support conceptual clarity in foundational sciences while exposing rural students to hands on problem solving methods.
The inauguration ceremony was attended by Lokesh Bharti, District Education Officer, Udaipur; Meena Sharma, CBEO Kurrabad; Sunita Boriwal, Principal, Bichchari Government School; Jaswant Rai, Principal, Zinc Smelter Government School Debari; Dharmi Bhai, Sarpanch, Bichchari; Kamal Singh and Babu Singh, former Sarpanch representatives; Anupam Nidhi, Head CSR, Vedanta Group; Vivek Yadav, SBU Director, Zinc Smelter Debari; Ruchika Naresh Chawla, CSR Head, Zinc Smelter Debari; and Aparna Vyas from the CSR team.

Arun Misra, CEO and Whole Time Director, Hindustan Zinc, said, “At Hindustan Zinc, we believe education is the foundation of lasting transformation. Our STEM Labs are designed to ignite curiosity, nurture problem solving abilities and equip young minds with skills required for a rapidly evolving world. By bringing experiential learning into classrooms, we are enabling students in our communities to think beyond boundaries and aspire with confidence.”

District Education Officer Lokesh Bharti noted that the initiative supports the district’s focus on improving learning outcomes through experiential methods. “Curiosity is the driving force behind meaningful learning, and this STEM Lab is nurturing that spirit among students. Activity based education strengthens conceptual clarity and scientific temperament at an early stage,” he said.
Meena Sharma, CBEO Kurrabad, added that rural students benefit significantly from exposure to practical science environments. “When children explore and experiment freely, their confidence grows. Access to modern tools and structured experimentation will help students in rural areas expand their aspirations,” she said.

Hindustan Zinc’s education initiatives form part of its wider community development programme, which reaches 2.3 million people through structured social welfare interventions. The company has steadily invested in improving physical infrastructure, learning facilities and technology access in government schools across Rajasthan, positioning education as a central pillar of its community engagement strategy.
By integrating immersive STEM spaces into rural classrooms, the company’s approach shifts the focus from access alone to quality and experiential depth, aiming to prepare students for higher education pathways and emerging technological fields.
