On World Liver Day, COO Sivani Sarma Deka emphasised scientific education in managing liver related bleeds, while Dr Gaurav Gupta highlighted the role of preventive care and regular screening in reducing complications
BSV marked World Liver Day by highlighting the importance of liver health awareness and strengthening scientific discussions around managing life threatening bleeds associated with liver diseases.
The global observance, centred on the theme of building strong habits for liver health, draws attention to lifestyle practices such as balanced nutrition, physical activity, reduced alcohol intake, and regular health checkups as key measures for prevention.
The liver plays a central role in maintaining the body’s coagulation balance, and damage to the organ can lead to complex bleeding and clotting disorders. Alcohol related liver disease remains a major contributor to liver related mortality worldwide, progressing from early stages of fat accumulation to more severe conditions such as hepatitis and cirrhosis.
In advanced liver disease, patients may experience disruptions in coagulation due to reduced levels of clotting factors and anticoagulant proteins. This condition, known as hepatic coagulopathy, can result in both bleeding and clotting complications.
BSV said it continues to focus on building awareness among healthcare practitioners through scientific engagement, including medical education sessions supported by global expertise and real world data. The organisation is also highlighting therapeutic approaches such as the use of four factor prothrombin complex concentrate, which can help address severe bleeding by restoring deficient clotting factors.
Sivani Sarma Deka, Chief Operating Officer, India Business, BSV, said, “As a responsible organization in bleed management, BSV continues to steer scientific conversations and discussions among healthcare practitioners through medical evidence and global experience. On this World Liver Day, let us commit to taking control of our liver health and preventing serious complications. Building healthy habits goes a long way in supporting liver wellness.”
Dr Gaurav Gupta, Liver Transplant and Hepato Pancreato Biliary Surgery specialist at Sir HN Reliance Foundation Hospital, said, “Coagulopathy due to liver dysfunction can be complex and difficult to treat. Using four factor prothrombin complex concentrate can help in life threatening situations. However, maintaining overall liver health remains the most effective prevention strategy. Regular checkups are especially important for individuals with risk factors such as obesity, diabetes, alcohol use, or family history.”
World Liver Day is observed annually to increase awareness about liver health and encourage early screening and lifestyle changes to reduce the burden of liver related diseases.
