At the Arrive Alive programme, Additional DGP Mahesh Muralidhar Bhagwat and SP Pankaj Paritosh highlighted rising road fatalities and the role of youth in building responsible road behaviour through awareness and preventive action
Woxsen University has partnered with the Government of Telangana to host the Arrive Alive road safety awareness programme, bringing together more than 500 students, senior police officials, and academic leaders to address concerns around road safety and responsible behaviour.
The initiative is part of the Praja Palana Pragathi Pranalika framework and places students at the centre of awareness efforts, encouraging them to contribute actively to behavioural change on roads.
Shri Mahesh Muralidhar Bhagwat, IPS, Additional Director General of Police Law and Order, Telangana, said, “Arrive Alive is a focused prevention driven initiative, and we are already witnessing measurable impact in reducing road fatalities across Telangana. The focus is on building everyday discipline, ensuring helmet use for both riders and pillion passengers, consistent seat belt usage, and eliminating distractions and fatigue while driving. Strengthening golden hour response through awareness of life saving techniques like CPR can improve survival outcomes.”
Mr. Pankaj Paritosh, Superintendent of Police, Sangareddy District, said, “Road safety today is not just the responsibility of enforcement agencies, it is everyone’s responsibility. Nearly 370 people lose their lives on Indian roads every day, while Telangana records around 18 deaths daily. Most of these are preventable and are caused by overconfidence, lack of helmet use, speeding, and negligence.”
The programme included a road safety pledge, presentation of a student conducted study on road usage patterns, and cultural performances designed to communicate safety messages in an engaging format. It also addressed broader concerns related to road behaviour and the need for sustained awareness.
Mr. Abhijit Shirodkar, Registrar, Woxsen University, said, “This is a much needed initiative by the Government of Telangana. Road safety is about ensuring that every individual returns home safely. Through programmes like Arrive Alive, we are reinforcing responsibility among young citizens.”
The initiative reflects ongoing collaboration between the university and the state government to promote public awareness and civic responsibility. Through such programmes, Woxsen University continues to engage students in initiatives that address social challenges while supporting efforts to build safer communities.
