Prof. Mohamed Rela, Chairman and Managing Director of Dr. Rela Institute and Medical Centre, said the Kadhir program will provide structured monitoring, rehabilitation, nutritional guidance, and psychological support for patients transitioning beyond active cancer treatment.

Rela Hospital has launched a dedicated cancer survivorship program, Kadhir, as it marks four years of cancer care in Chennai.
The initiative is designed to support patients beyond active treatment by addressing physical, emotional, and psychosocial needs through structured follow up, rehabilitation, nutritional guidance, and supportive care. The hospital said the program is intended for patients who have completed treatment as well as those who are still undergoing cancer care.

Kadhir has been developed to enable continued clinical monitoring, support early detection of recurrence, and manage late side effects associated with cancer therapies. The program also includes rehabilitation and psychosocial care, covering areas such as emotional well being, relationships, fertility, return to work, and healthy lifestyle practices.
According to the hospital, the survivorship model will be delivered by a multidisciplinary team that includes oncologists, rehabilitation specialists, nutritionists, and counsellors working in coordination to ensure continuity in follow up care.

The program was launched by Prof. Mohamed Rela, Chairman and Managing Director of Dr. Rela Institute and Medical Centre, in the presence of cancer survivors treated at Rela Hospital and their families.
Prof. Mohamed Rela said, “Advances in cancer treatment have significantly improved survival, bringing greater focus on the long term needs of patients after treatment is completed. Survivors often require ongoing monitoring for recurrence, management of persistent side effects, and support in addressing the broader impact on their health and well being.”

He added, “The growing number of cancer survivors we see today also reinforces the need for structured survivorship care that extends beyond treatment. A coordinated program like Kadhir enables continuity across specialties while supporting patients as they transition back to their daily lives, with access to rehabilitation, nutritional guidance, and psychological support where needed.”
The hospital said the launch of the program is aimed at strengthening structured survivorship care within its oncology services. Rela Hospital’s Cancer Centre provides surgical, medical, and radiation oncology services along with organ transplantation and supporting diagnostic and therapeutic care under one roof.
