POLICE OFFICER EXPLAINS COMMON CYBER FRAUD METHODS
Sri Shravan Kumar, Inspector of Police, Cyber Crime, addressed students on several forms of cyber and financial fraud.
The session covered phishing attacks, fake investment schemes, digital arrest scams, fraudulent loan offers, malicious APK files, suspicious links, OTP fraud, WhatsApp scams, QR code fraud and impersonation.
He explained how fraudsters may pose as police officers or banking representatives to pressure individuals into sharing confidential information or transferring money.
“Cybercriminals are increasingly using fraudulent phone calls, impersonating police officers and bank officials, and creating fear through false allegations to deceive innocent people.”
He advised students not to share personal or banking details in response to suspicious communications.
Unknown WhatsApp video calls and requests for Aadhaar or bank account verification were also identified as situations requiring caution.

STUDENTS ADVISED TO VERIFY DIGITAL COMMUNICATIONS
The programme encouraged students to exercise care when using digital payment services, opening links or downloading mobile applications.
Participants were advised not to disclose one time passwords, PINs or banking credentials and to verify the authenticity of messages claiming to originate from financial institutions.
Students were also informed about the national cybercrime helpline 1930, through which suspected financial cyber fraud can be reported.
The discussion highlighted the importance of recognising suspicious requests before responding or making payments.

FOCUS ON EDUCATION AND CAREER DEVELOPMENT
Alongside cyber safety, Sri Shravan Kumar spoke about the importance of communication skills, confidence and consistent academic effort.
“Academic excellence alone is not enough. Strong communication skills, confidence, curiosity and dedication are equally important for professional success.”
He encouraged students to ask questions, use their educational opportunities effectively and remain focused on their career aspirations.
