Dr. Veda Hallad of HCG Suchirayu Hospital and Dr. Seeta Mutalik said the 1 km Saree Swag Run 2026 was designed to encourage women to prioritise regular check ups, preventive screening, and long term health awareness.
Hubballi, 11 March 2026: Preventive healthcare and routine screenings took centre stage on International Women’s Day as HCG NMR Cancer Centre, in association with HCG Suchirayu Hospital, Hubballi, organised Saree Swag Run 2026, a 1 km community awareness walk aimed at encouraging women to pay closer attention to their own health.
The initiative brought together women from across Hubballi for a symbolic walk that combined tradition with a public message on self care. Participants joined the event wearing sarees, sports shoes, and sunglasses, reflecting a blend of tradition, strength, and confidence while drawing attention to the importance of proactive health choices.
The walk began at HCG Cancer Centre and moved along Shirur Park Road before concluding at HCG Suchirayu Hospital. Around 80 women, including community members, professionals, and healthcare advocates, took part in the event in support of women’s health awareness.
After the walk, participants were offered complimentary health screenings and awareness activities, including blood pressure, blood sugar, and BMI checks. Dedicated women’s health awareness desks were also set up, where participants interacted with healthcare professionals and received guidance on preventive health and routine screening. Special preventive health packages were also introduced as part of the initiative.
The organisers said the event was intended to encourage conversations around preventive healthcare, particularly in growing cities where women often place family responsibilities ahead of their own health needs.
Dr. Veda Hallad, Assistant CTVS Surgeon, HCG Suchirayu Hospital, Hubballi, said, “Women often place the health of their families before their own, which can lead to delays in routine check ups and screenings. Through initiatives like the Saree Swag Run, we aimed to encourage women to take time for their own well being and understand the importance of preventive health. Regular screenings and timely consultations can play an important role in identifying potential health concerns early and ensuring appropriate care.”
Dr. Seeta Mutalik, Consultant Nephrologist, HCG Suchirayu Hospital, Hubballi, said, “Community led initiatives like the Saree Swag Run help create a supportive environment where women feel encouraged to talk openly about their health. By bringing people together through activities like this, we hope to build greater awareness about the importance of regular health check ups and preventive care, enabling women to take more informed steps towards their long term well being.”
Through the initiative, HCG said it aims to strengthen community engagement and improve awareness around preventive healthcare among women in the region.
