Web3 Hiring Gap Leaves 54% of Candidates Struggling for Their First Role, Finds Bitget Report

Gracy Chen, CEO of Bitget, said the challenge is no longer attracting talent but helping educated candidates convert skills and training into employment opportunities

Despite growing interest in blockchain and Web3 careers, many aspiring professionals continue to face challenges securing entry level opportunities, according to Bitget’s latest Web3 Next Gen Talent Intelligence Report.
Released under Bitget’s Blockchain4Youth initiative, the report found that 54 percent of respondents identified prior experience requirements for junior positions as the biggest barrier to entering the industry. The findings suggest that while blockchain education is expanding globally, employment pathways have not developed at the same pace.
The study also found that 52 percent of respondents believed their education provided theoretical knowledge but lacked practical, job ready skills. The report concludes that the sector is facing a talent access challenge rather than a talent shortage, with qualified candidates struggling to gain the experience required to enter the workforce.

Emerging markets are playing a significant role in the development of the future Web3 workforce. Nigeria, Indonesia and China accounted for nearly half of all respondents surveyed. Nearly 46 percent of participants were between 23 and 30 years old, while more than 58 percent held Bachelor’s, Master’s or PhD degrees.
Commenting on the findings, Gracy Chen, CEO of Bitget, said, “The industry has succeeded in attracting talent globally. The challenge now is converting talent into employment. The findings show there is a large pool of motivated and educated candidates, but many are struggling to take the first step into the industry. Closing this gap will be critical for the next phase of industry growth.”

The report also highlights changing career interests within the sector. Artificial intelligence and blockchain convergence emerged as the most preferred career path, selected by 61 percent of respondents. Practical industry exposure remained a key concern, with 62 percent identifying mentorship from experienced professionals as the support most likely to accelerate career development.
The findings come as Bitget continues to expand Blockchain4Youth, its global education and workforce development initiative. The programme’s Learning Hub has surpassed 10,000 registered learners worldwide and combines blockchain fundamentals, decentralised finance education, industry insights and emerging technology topics.

Participants who complete the programme receive certification that can support access to selected opportunities through Bitget and the Blockchain4Youth Talent Alliance. Additional initiatives, including educational partnerships, mentorship programmes and career development projects, aim to connect learning with employment opportunities.
The report concludes that stronger collaboration between educational institutions, employers, learning platforms and industry participants will be necessary to address the gap between education and employment as the Web3 sector continues to evolve.
