Krishna Das Joins Amjad Ali Khan, Amaan and Ayaan for Om Mani Padme Hum in Chants for Unity

Krishna Das, Grammy nominated devotional artist, Ustaad Amjad Ali Khan, Sarod Maestro, and Amaan Ali Bangash and Ayaan Ali Bangash come together for the meditative track, with Sawan Dutta handling music production, arrangement, mixing and mastering, and Kabir Sehgal producing the recording.

Devotional artist Krishna Das has joined Ustaad Amjad Ali Khan, Amaan Ali Bangash and Ayaan Ali Bangash for a rendition of Om Mani Padme Hum as part of the nine track album Chants for Unity.
The collaboration brings Krishna Das’ vocals together with the sarod, placing the sacred chant within a musical setting that draws from devotional expression and Indian classical music.
On Om Mani Padme Hum, Krishna Das leads the vocals, while Ustaad Amjad Ali Khan performs on the sarod. Amaan Ali Bangash and Ayaan Ali Bangash are also part of the collaboration, which connects the chant with the musical vocabulary of the sarod.

Krishna Das said, “It was an honour to work with Amjad Ali Khan ji. I have long admired his work and his immense contribution to the world of classical music and I am truly elated to be a part of Chants for Unity. My heartfelt thanks to Amaan and Ayaan for bringing this collaboration together. It is a treasure to work with this wonderful family and to be part of such a beautiful cause. Chants for Unity is, at its heart, a prayer and an offering to the universe, and I feel deeply grateful to have contributed to it.”
Chants for Unity brings together sacred chants, shlokas, stotras and kirtan with the sarod. Led by Ustaad Amjad Ali Khan, the album also features Amaan Ali Bangash and Ayaan Ali Bangash across its exploration of different devotional traditions.

The nine track album also marks the vocal debut of Subhalakshmi Borooah Khan, who has sung five of its songs.
Other contributors include bhajan singer Nina Rao, who performs Sankat Mochan Hanuman Chalisa, and singer Jai Uttal, who has provided vocals for Lotus Feet. Pandit Vijaykumar and Pandit Narayanan, along with their team, have chanted the Mahamrityunjaya Mantra.
Ustaad Amjad Ali Khan said, “Music has always been a language beyond boundaries and Om Mani Padme Hum is a beautiful expression of that belief. It was a privilege to collaborate with Krishna Das, whose voice carries such sincerity, devotion and spiritual depth. For Amaan Ali Bangash and Ayaan Ali Bangash, the recording also carried a personal connection through their mother’s vocal debut on the album.
Amaan Ali Bangash and Ayaan Ali Bangash added, “When Krishna Das was recording Om Mani Padme Hum it felt as though the Bodhisattva of Compassion himself had descended at our studio. It was an enriching experience to collaborate with him and bring this entire album to life. Professionally this album will always be close to our hearts as we could finally convince our mother for her vocal debut”.
Om Mani Padme Hum features Krishna Das on vocals and Ustaad Amjad Ali Khan on sarod. Sawan Dutta has handled the music production, arrangement, mixing and mastering, while Kabir Sehgal has produced the track.
Through the recording, Chants for Unity brings together vocal and instrumental expressions of devotion, with Om Mani Padme Hum forming one of the album’s collaborations across musical traditions.
