Spiritual Wisdom: Integrating Rumi’s Teachings into Modern Business Practices

Hrishikesh Datar, Author and Founder of Vakilsearch.com

Discusses How “Ruminate” Brings Rumi’s Spiritual Wisdom to Business Leadership.

Spiritual wisdom is at the heart of Hrishikesh Datar’s debut book, “Ruminate,” which merges the timeless teachings of Rumi with the demands of modern business practices. In a world where leaders are constantly seeking ways to build better teams and lead with purpose, “Ruminate” serves as a guide that brings spiritual wisdom into the realm of business, promising to enhance both leadership skills and personal growth.

What are the main themes of “Ruminate,” and how does Hrishikesh Datar integrate Rumi’s teachings with modern business practices?

Rumi’s Spiritual wisdom is captured in a single sentence. You are the ocean, in a drop. The book aims to prove that you are an unlimited being, and capable of anything you choose to do, have or be.

By doing so, it shines some light on how we can build better teams, be better leaders and above all, better human beings. The teachings may come across to many as spiritual, but they are deeply human.

How effectively does the book address common challenges faced by entrepreneurs and business leaders, and can you provide examples of Rumi’s Spiritual wisdom applied to business scenarios?

The book addresses the main challenges that every entrepreneur faces. Namely, building a team, overcoming doubts and fears and living upto to your true potential as a business builder.

There is an anecdote in the book, of a woman who, when her grandson was trapped under a car, lifted the entire car to free him. This, in scientific terms, is called hysterical strength. In Rumi’s terms, it is an expression of your true inner strength. And it is something we all have inside us.

So the book aims to help every entrepreneur with unlocking their own unlimited strength to conquer mountains looming large ahead of them.

What actionable advice does the book offer to business owners and managers, and how can readers implement these strategies in their daily operations?

There are multiple actionable insights which we can implement in our daily lives. Provided we actually implement them in our daily lives.

For Rumi’s teachings to be effective, repetition is key.

One practice which works, with repetition, is focussed introspection. Consider the question: What is in the gap between thoughts? The answer is nothing, and also everything. Since every thought springs from the gap between thoughts, and the entire universe is made up of thoughts, the entire universe comes out of the gap between our thoughts.

How does the author blend spirituality and business acumen in his narrative, and how does this approach encourage both personal and professional growth?

There is no difference between the spiritual and the “real”. Scientifically, all matter is 99.9999% empty space. This is real. And if this is reality, then what are we experiencing when we touch, feel, taste and smell matter?

Clearly, everything which we perceive is merely imagined by us. Isn’t it?

And if you agree with this, scientifically, then are you not creating everything that you perceive?

And if you are, are you not god?

What then, is the difference between the spiritual and the scientific / real? Who would benefit most from reading this book, and how does it cater to different levels of business experience?
Everyone who is willing to question and introspect. Although many of the chapters are written keeping in mind a business or organization leader, the message is far deeper and far reaching than that. It aims to break limiting beliefs which are deep rooted, and come out of a false notion of reality.
It makes no distinction based on the depth of business experience, the kind of business or organization you run or the goals you aspire to achieve.
How does Hrishikesh Datar’s background influence his writing, and what key takeaways or unique perspectives does “Ruminate” offer compared to other business books?
Being a first generation entrepreneur, I have made more mistakes than most, and tried to learn from these mistakes and not make them twice.
And the unique perspective which this book offers is that it comes from a place of honest introspection.
At no point is the book claiming to know the answers any more than the reader, or suggesting that there is a single, irrefutable truth. In fact, the hope of the book is that every reader, through their own inner journey, will discover their own truth.
