Created by ZA Works ahead of National Mural Day, the Borivali East mural rises from the 13th to the 34th floor and depicts a young girl holding a golden key.

A Slum Rehabilitation Authority tower in Borivali East has become the site of one of Mumbai’s tallest vertical murals, with Chandak Group unveiling a 15,000 sq. ft. artwork ahead of National Mural Day on 27 June.
The mural extends from the 13th floor to the 34th floor of the rehabilitation tower and has been designed as a public artwork linked to housing, community identity and the emotional significance of receiving a home.
The artwork was conceptualised and created by ZA Works. A team of 16 artists and technicians worked for more than 270 hours to complete the large scale installation.

The mural shows a young girl holding a golden key while standing before a keyhole shaped portal that opens into a bright setting with flowers, butterflies and open skies. The image represents the moment when a family receives the keys to a new home and begins life in formal housing.
A spokesperson from Chandak Group said, “Redevelopment is not merely about constructing buildings; it is about transforming lives and restoring dignity. Through this mural, we wanted to create a visual symbol of hope for every family aspiring for a better future. The artwork reflects the emotional significance of receiving a home, a moment that changes generations. We wanted to go a step further by beautifying the building as well, so that residents feel a sense of pride every time they look at their home.”

A spokesperson from ZA Works said, “This mural was envisioned as more than a large-scale artwork; it is a story of possibility, transformation and hope. Bringing together multiple surfaces across such a significant height into one cohesive visual narrative was both a creative and technical challenge.”
The project places public art within Mumbai’s redevelopment setting, using a rehabilitation building as the canvas for a community focused visual statement. The mural is expected to become a visible landmark in the Borivali East area.
Chandak Group has worked in Mumbai’s SRA segment and has constructed over 80 lakh sq. ft. of development across key micro markets including Worli, Wadala, Chembur, Goregaon and Dahisar in the last three years. During this period, the company handed over 7,616 homes, including 3,500 SRA rehabilitation units.

The company is also set to deliver 1,508 additional rehabilitation homes in the coming year and has more than 3,000 SRA units under different stages of development.
