Astro Arun Pandit outlines six Vastu practices that are traditionally believed to support a healthier home environment, including bedroom orientation, ventilation, clutter management, kitchen placement and entrance design.

Astro Arun Pandit shares traditional Vastu recommendations on bedroom direction, natural light, clutter management and home layout that are believed to promote physical and mental wellbeing.

The way a home is designed and maintained can influence comfort and daily living. According to Astro Arun Pandit, Founder of Horocosmo, Vastu Shastra also considers the flow of energy within a home to play a role in supporting physical and mental wellbeing. While these recommendations are rooted in traditional beliefs and are not a substitute for medical care, he suggests that certain changes may help create a more balanced living environment.
One recommendation is to pay attention to sleeping direction. According to Vastu, sleeping with the head towards the south or east is considered favourable, while sleeping with the head towards the north is believed to affect sleep quality and the body’s natural energy balance.

Pandit also advises keeping the northeast corner of the home clean and free from clutter. In Vastu, this area is associated with health and mental clarity. He suggests maintaining an open, well lit space and placing a healthy plant or a small water feature in this zone.
Natural light and ventilation are another important aspect of Vastu. Allowing fresh air and morning sunlight into the home is believed to improve the overall energy of a living space while creating a brighter and more comfortable environment.

Kitchen placement also forms part of traditional Vastu guidance. The southeast direction is considered the preferred location because it is associated with the fire element. Where relocating a kitchen is not possible, Pandit recommends traditional remedies such as placing a copper pyramid, which practitioners believe may help balance the space.
He further recommends repairing or removing broken household items such as cracked mirrors, leaking taps, damaged clocks and non functioning appliances. According to Vastu beliefs, such objects symbolise stagnation and should be addressed through regular maintenance.

Another suggestion is to maintain a clean and welcoming main entrance. Vastu considers the entrance to be the primary point through which energy enters a home. Keeping the area clean, well lit and free from obstacles such as shoes, dustbins or damaged objects is believed to encourage a balanced environment. Pandit also recommends ensuring the main door opens smoothly and adding a healthy plant or a simple nameplate near the entrance.
He says these traditional Vastu practices can complement a healthy lifestyle by encouraging organised, comfortable and positive living spaces, while emphasising that they should not replace professional medical advice or treatment.
