Puja Garg, President of FICCI FLO, and Saroja Savithri Paulraj, Sri Lanka’s Minister of Women and Child Affairs, discussed women’s leadership, entrepreneurship, policy exchange and stronger business ties between India and Sri Lanka.
FICCI Ladies Organisation hosted a women parliamentary delegation from Sri Lanka in New Delhi for discussions on bilateral cooperation, women’s leadership and economic participation.
The delegation was led by Saroja Savithri Paulraj, Minister of Women and Child Affairs, Government of Sri Lanka. The interaction focused on strengthening trade and cultural ties between India and Sri Lanka, with discussions around women’s entrepreneurship, inclusive development and participation in decision making.
Both sides discussed closer engagement through women business delegations, policy exchange and institutional collaboration between the two countries.
Puja Garg, President, FICCI FLO, said India and Sri Lanka share longstanding civilisational and cultural ties, adding that Sri Lanka remains an important part of India’s Neighbourhood First policy.
She said FICCI FLO, over four decades, has developed initiatives focused on entrepreneurship, professional development, financial literacy, digital skills, rural enterprises, women in STEM and MSME support.
Saroja Savithri Paulraj said the work of Sri Lanka’s Women Parliamentarians’ Caucus aligns closely with the vision of FICCI FLO in advancing gender equality, leadership and women’s participation through advocacy, education, entrepreneurship and community engagement.
Anant Swarup, Secretary General, FICCI, said India and Sri Lanka share a partnership rooted in history, culture and people to people ties, with both countries recognising the importance of women’s participation in governance and economic life.
The two sides discussed areas for future cooperation including exchange of best practices in women entrepreneurship, policy advocacy, leadership development and capacity building.
Other areas identified included collaboration in MSMEs, startups, handicrafts, textiles and rural enterprises, along with knowledge exchange in digital inclusion, financial literacy and STEM education.
The discussions also included proposals for joint forums, business delegations, trade facilitation initiatives and cultural engagement between the two countries.
Those present included Past President FICCI Poonam Sharma, FICCI FLO Vice President Pooja Chaudhary, members of the FLO Presidium, governing body members and senior FLO representatives.
